I'm not sure if the three beach webcams will be up or not. The most interesting one is usually the traffic cams that show the crowds on the causeway.
Reminder for Hou/Galvers (or anyone else, for that matter)

Word of advice -- Do NOT plan on any trips to the beach or the Strand or anywhere on the island this weekend.

If I didn't know you better I could accuse you of prejudice for putting out this warning. I know there are some that would(not talking about this board). However, I FULLY CONCUR IN YOUR WARNINGS!!!! My daughter got caught in that in 1997 after graduation. From Houston to Galveston took 5 1/2 hours!!!! We were frantic till she called, especially since she had been sick the night before and had to stay home and was catching up with her friends. Ever since that day we make sure we know when BPW is and STAY AWAY!!! What do you do? Do you leave the island or just barricade yourself in?

Yup, I'm actually one of the "supporters" of BPW. And yes, you know me well enough. No prejudice here.
Just warning because of the crowds.
I've been here for over 5 years and used to live one block from Menard Park/two blocks from the beach, where one DJ had his equipment set up. It was loud, but they played 80's and early 90's music and always stopped by 11:00 PM. So I've never been bothered by it all. My stepdad came down to visit during my first year here because he had to go to San Antonio for an investigator's conference. I had no idea about it at that time, since it was my first experience with BPW. It was so crowded and took him forever to get here and then he had to take sideroads and so forth since traffic is rerouted around the island.
As far as I'm concerned, it's just one weekend a year so what's the big deal? I just stock up at the grocery store ahead of time, get some videos, and plan on staying in and doing a little spring cleaning and getting some R&R. I tell others here that I don't see what the big deal is about having to take one weekend out of the whole year where you either leave for three days or stay in for three days.
Some people argue that businesses lose money during BPW and that it's not worth it. I have yet to see any solid proof that BPW hurts the island and that we lose money instead of gaining because of the clean-up afterwards.
All I know is that it is kinda weird that Wal-Mart closes.
