Tropical Update: 13 Apr

#1 Postby senorpepr » Tue Apr 13, 2004 8:03 am

06Z update is posted for morale! Typhoon Sudal is featured as system that has stabled in terms of intensity. Regardless, expect Sudal to transition into an extratropical cyclone over the next few days. Additionally, this update features 90W, which stands as a canadate for our fourth NWPAC system of the year. We shall see...

Is that Invest the storm East Of Bermuda? Looks like quite a storm moving westward. Almost looks like it may have some banding features forming. What do you think?

No, Invest 90W is approx 600mi SE of Guam while Invest 97P is in the South Pacific. There currently is no invest listed for the Atlantic trough, nor do I expect one in the near feature. Climatologically speaking, systems don't form in the Atlantic in April plus the SSTs are a tad on the cool side. I don't believe this system will develop into anything, but it's not out of the question. There's still a lot of factors against formation and, until I see hard-core evident, I'll say this system has a very poor potential for development.

Changes for the 14/00Z update...

Invest 90W has been downgraded to poor as the system has become less organized over the past 12 hours.

Also, I posted the incorrect distance from Invest 97P to land. It should read "160mi SE of Honiara, Soloman Islands."

I'll post new data this morning.

Looks like it will probably merge with that active frontal system off of the east coast. Could make for a massive Northeaster type storm for Newfoundland or something
