At the Supercenter...
I was getting a couple of loaves of bread when this woman with a crazed look in her eye standing next to me pulled out a loaf of bread and started counting the slices. She then proceeded to tell me that if the number of slices in the loaf was an odd number the bread was "unpure".
She then said that she couldn't find a loaf in this store with an even number of slices so she grabbed a thing of tortillas that came in a package of 40. When I got home, for the fun of it, my grandmother and I counted the bread in our 2 loaves. Both had 20.... an even number.
I think she was a little crazy.

Do the crusts count?
Dangit! Now I'm going to start counting slices. That unpure stuff is hooey, but when you're waiting in line, you have to do something. Maybe I'll do a study. More thinner slices would be better than fewer thick slices. It only takes two to make a sandwich, you know.

Yes... I don't know what I would have done had it been unpure.

If your bread is unpure, set it outside the camp for seven days; then, have the elders circumcise it. After three days, when it is still sore, make sandwiches, that the people be satisfied thereof. Gather the crumbs in baskets, and use what you have gleaned on chicken breasts. This is a true saying, and you must believe on it to eat.

*snicker* I love that show!
The only thing I can really figure is that she liked making sandwiches. If there's an odd number of slices, that would mean she'd end up with one piece of bread left over, which wouldn't make a complete sandwich.
Some people are just so picky.
Then again, I'll snopes it to find out if there's more than just that one woman worried about bread slices.

Yea, for it is known, that when the elders go out of the camp to circumcise the bread, even the loaf, to take but one slice and make it pure; then the number of the slices shall be even, yea, divided in twos, as pleasing before the people?
Therefore, rejoice, ye pumpernickels, ye croissants, even the breads of garlic, and of sourdough, leavened and unleavened; for thy deliverance is at hand.
