Have you ever liked President not in your party?
Emotions run so strongly about politics. Most people lean strongly toward one party or the other. My questions is if any of you has ever greatly liked/respected a President who belonged to a political party other than the one your prefer.

Not yet...at least, not when it comes to a President from the opposite party of my affiliation.
However, in local governments, sure. There have been a handful of decent Democrats in city positions both here in Galveston and back in Lexington. It just depends upon the issues and how they handle them.

I second that. As a wartime President FDR and Truman have my vote. I would not been able to vote against either, though I think FDR's social programs have killed this country.
There was a time where I believed that Bob Graham would have been a good President, then I found out he was a fruitcake.

In my lifetime, only JFK had my admiration and respect...and in the years I've been voting (32), I've seen some Democrats I'd have LIKED to see in the Oval Office, but they never made the cut in the primaries.
On the local-county level, it's different; that vote is usually split down the middle. On the state-Federal level, though, none of the Democratic candidates had the "stuff" I always seek in someone who I'm "hiring" to do a job for me.

Why do you say that Bob Graham is a fruitcake? He is a man who is greatly respected by people as far as I've heard.

....and he was greatly admired by me. He was a great FL. Governor. I voted for him in Senate. He prove to me that he was as partisan as any during the impeachment process when he voted not to impeach after spending years talking against the type of behavior that Pres. Clinton was accused of. He then politicized his position as head of the Intel Committee, often saying one thing then doing another. His comments about Pres. Bush after 9/11 and where the oldest political tripe and clearly only to garner votes placing blame for intel failures on Bush's feet, even though he was head of oversight when these very failures occured.

Well... I am not affiliated with any party and have voted for both parties. On the state and local level, I find myself voting more often than not for Republicans. It is about 50/50 on the national level (ie: Senate,House, Pres.)

JFK for his ability to unite the country, and his hard line stance against communism, and his anti-Democratic tax cutting policies.
I 2nd Marshall's view on Carter...heck of a nice guy...likeable...but the worst President I've lived through, AND the worst "after office" President for his critizism of sitting President Bush.
