Looks like the legislature has time on their hands and have decided that now's a great time to increase speed limits on "selected" rural freeways to 80 mph!
Let's see, the speed limit on most parts of the interstates here is already 75. People drive between 85 and 90...backing down if they sense a rare state patrol car or overhead plane.
So, if I'm thinking about this right, the new speed limit of 80 will mean drivers go between 90 -95 mph with an occasional brush with 100 hardly noticed!
I realize that when you combine the desert with hot sun, wide open freeways, and the next sign of life an hour away, cutting off another few minutes between here and anywhere else seems to be a worthy goal.
I, for one, can already feel the sweat on my brow when I'm cruisin' at 85 and all I see in my rearview mirror is the grill of an 18-wheeler saying "get out of my way!"
At least at that speed it will be harder to see those little crosses and memorials on the side of the road....
75 is fine, thank you.

80 mph in Arizona...

Along I-80 near Kearney Nebraska, some bozo thought that 141 mph (yes, I repeat, 141 mph) was a good speed to go!
I wish the feds would take back the speed limit and lower 65 mph and enforce it like a hawk. Nebraska's limit in the rural areas is 75; in the cities it is 60. Here in Omaha, during rush hour, people are flying by getting to or from work, going to a concert downtown or whatever. It is nuts. Forget about enforcing it during busy times; it is impossible.

I've noticed that within Omaha people normally go well above the speed limit of 60mph, while they go at or slightly below the 75mph speed limit between Omaha and Lincoln. Occasionally you'll find someone who'll go 80-85mph on I-80. Then again, I guess you have the occasional guy who'll go 141mph
