Interesting current weather in possible points of landfall

#1 Postby Hyperstorm » Sat Mar 27, 2004 8:26 am

These are good links to know weather conditions in areas where the hurricane might come close:

Current and past observations for Porto Alegre:

Current and past observations for Florianopolis:

http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/SBFL.html

I, personally, think that it will come closer to Porto Alegre than to Florianopolis, although it will be a close call possibly making landfall in between those two cities.

Here's a link to a good map where it shows the main cities in Brazil:

http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/samerica/lgcolor/brcolor.gif

(Porto Alegre is actually closer to the coast than what is depicted here, so this is just for reference purposes.)

It is very interesting that I found that Porto Alegre is the capital and largest city in southern Brazil with a population of over 1.3 million people! We're not talking about some small town with several thousand people, we're talking massive population here. Any natural phenonemon will definitely cause great losses, unfortunately.

We can only watch now to see if turns or not more WSW, because then they might be in for some trouble.
