Hey there,

Does anyone know of archived fix positions on a certain storm, namely that JTWC is watching?

For instance I would like all of the fixes from 93S ever since the system began as a poor fix, basically to see the which direction the storm is meandering. I know it's caught up in a trough right now which will distort the true persistance, but any fixes would help.

I've done a little searching and could find nothing - thanks all in advance.

Best regards...

You can go to NRL Monterey's website at: http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_pages/tc_home.html

Once there, click on Invest 93S, then click on the satellite picture. Just above the satellite pic you'll see a line of text that will look like:

20040302.0030.meteo-5.ir_bw.x.93SINVEST.25kts-1002mb-121S-711E.jpg

The highlighted numbers are the latitude and longitude of the storm's center, in hunderths of a degree. In this case, the center is located at 12.1S 71.1E. Then, just to the left of this text is a link called "Previous." Click on this, and it will take you to the previous fixes. I'll give you a link, the NRL Monterey updates their pages very often, so it's best to start from the home page and work from there. Hope this helps.

Regardless, it appears that 93S is drifting erractically WSW.

*I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy*

Ha, thanks for the help. You know I've frequented that site I don't know how many times and simply never noticed. Thank you for sharing though!

I hate to bite the hand that feeds me but it would be much more user friendly if they incorporated those previous images coupled with the fix positions in a drop down box or menu. I found it quite cumbersome to manually sift through each image like that, although that is certainly better than nothing.

Thanks again!

Actually I have some good news for you. See, I just found the lat/longs and intensities on the NRL website just rescently. A bit ago I found a drop down menu with all the info in it. It's still in the same format as I mentioned before, but this is how you get to it.

Go back to the NRL Monterey website and click on the respective storm. Then, click on the satellite image, just as you did before. Once you get there, up towards the upper-left corner you'll see this:

Display: Latest Pass_Mosaic Prev. Mosaic Animate

Click on Mosaic. This will give you every single image that NRL Monterey's used for this system.

The file name will give you a lot of information.

Code: Select all

|Date   |Time|Satellite Type|CycName|Wind|Pressure|Lat|Long|

I hope this helps!
