Pres. Ronald Reagan Appreciation Thread

#1 Postby JTD » Mon Feb 16, 2004 9:39 pm

I was too young to remember the Reagan years, but from the clips I've seen of him "Mr.Gorbachev tear down this wall." And to Mondale "I won't let my opponents' youth and inexperience get to me." To his incredibly moving address after the Challenger explosion, he seemed like just an incredible president.

What, in your opinion, was his best moment?

I pick the Challenger address.

Reagan and Clinton were a lot alike in that they connected to the people in a profound way.

Also, I have to say that having alzheimer's is a fate that Pres. Reagan absolutely does not deserve, of course.

BTW, Did any of you see Ron Reagan on CNBC tonight on Maria Bartimoro's show? He's a Howard Dean supporter lol and he's a passionate liberal. I was stunned.

He also said that his dad was a true man and GW Bush doesn't even rate and he was quite offended that Bush tried to compare himself to Reagan.

Anyway, I think it'd be cool to talk about your memories of Reagan's presidency.

Reagan was a great president through and through.
His legacy: He won the cold war. Peace through strength. Economic growth from tax cuts. Be Proud, America is great.

One of his finest moments was when he survived the assissination attempt. He took it like a tough guy, downplayed the seriousness of it, and came through it like a hero.

He inspired us, he led us, he stood up for personal responsibility and character. He faced down the bad guys.

there's a lot of parallels between the situations Reagan faced and those faced by current pres. Bush.

Reagan took a lot of flak for being an actor, but ironically, that served hiem well in his ultimate role.

President Reagan's greatest strengths lay in his ability to COMMUNICATE...and in his "backbone".

GW has the backbone...all he needs is a tutorial in debate.

GW's debate ability reminds me of my debate ability. I can never say what I want to say in a debate. Everything seems to come out backwards. But give me an hour or two to think and I can come up with brilliant things to say. Unfortuantely, it's always too late! :)

IMO...the greatest President this country has ever seen.

To draw any comparisons to Clinton just makes my skin crawl.

Reagan was the master of one liners...he had a great relationship with the press, on BOTH sides.

One of my favorite humorous lines he used many times...I think the first time was the Debate with Walter Mondale (??)..."There you go again"...lol

One of more serious quotes I always loved:
"There are some who've forgotten why we have a military. It's not to promote war; it's to be prepared for peace."
