Meeting people in person, you have met online
This may be a silly topic, but a topic for discussion nonetheless.
There are opportunties for people that have met each other online to meet each other in person.
Some individuals think there is nothing wrong with this, while others do, for example my parents tend to thing this way. I would assume that a lot of parents would, but I also assume a lot don't.

I have met several people in person that I have met online (none from here unfortunately) but I have no problem with it as long as you are sure you know who they really are.

Just a word of caution. Always meet on-line friends in a public place. Never go to meet someone without letting another person know where you are going, who you are meeting, and what time to expect you back. It's always a good idea to make arrangements to call that 3rd person shortly after meeting an on-line person to let that person know that you are okay. In a perfect world, meeting an on-line friend should be a fun experience; but we all know that this isn't a perfect world. It's always best to show caution and protect yourself the best way you can.

I have met one person from here, vbhoutex at our class last week. Since I have been online with him for at least 4 years, it was like meeting an old friend and a wonderful experience. I will be meeting a few more this year, especially over the summer when I make my trip.
On the bad side, did meet someone from another site in person years ago. HORRIBLE!!!!!!! Wish I knew then what I know now.
I think as long as you are REALLY sure you know the person, it's a good idea. It helps to put a face with a name (or a voice).

I met a person that I had met in a garden web forum for daylilies. It turns out she lives over in the Sanford -Orlando area and last weekend I went with a few of my daylily club members to the Sunbelt club's daylily meeting where the hybridizer Curt Hansen was the speaker for the meeting. Beachlily is the secretary for the Sunbelt club. I walked over to where she was sitting and asked if she was BeachLily and she said yes, so I said I was Daylilydayzed which is the name I use for the Gardenweb forums. We had a great meeting.

My wife and I met a lady from KY online in a Southern Gospel Music chatroom, not long after we discovered the internet back in Jan. '97. We also met a lady from Patton, PA in the same chatroom. I can't count the number of nights we were up late chatting to them. Finally, in summer '98 we made a trip thru London, KY and on to Patton, Pa to meet our friends. It was wonderful! We had the best time. Our kids loved it too.
Oddly enough, in Feb. 98 the lady from ky's hubby left her on valentine's day for another woman. Mywife and were up all night that night talking to her. Poor thing! Good news, tho. She met someone online. They talked and met several times and have since been married and are living happily ever after.
On another note, my daughter is dating a guy she met online. I was a bit skeptical about it. They'd been talking for a couple of yrs. I finally met him last summer. This year, they've become serious and have started dating. He's been to our house several times and is a very well mannered guy. He lives in Bay St. Louis, MS.

What I meant by that Tom is that you trust that they are who they say they are. If you don't feel comfortable meeting them and you don't trust them... don't do it. Otherwise, I don't see a problem with it.

I have met OHD, Houstonia, Galvez, Raine, and last but not least Suzi Q from Storm2k. I have actually talked to Ticka in person, but did not realize it(or maybe it was Donny her husband-it was someone in her group)at the racetrack. Since then she has been ahem, cough, cough, bowing out every time we've tried to get together.
I understand the the concern of meeting someone you know online in person. Imagine me when I met Raine in NYC(a place I was unfamiliar with)!! She was smart about it too. We met in a public place and she brought her sister(what a jewel)with her also. We had a great time and completed our mission for the PBS group at that time of leaving a prayer and candles at Ground zero!!! My son is all but engaged to a young lady he met on lilne 2.5 years ago, so it can be a good thing, but it is always best to be extra careful and follow the rules some others have stated here.
