Friends - only 2 NEW episodes left...
I'm hoping to keep this topic current until the Friends finale airs on May 6th. Please non-Friends fans (I know you're out there!), be ever so kind and skip this topic. I'd love for devoted-diehard Friends like myself (from day one, and proud of it!) to discuss these remaining 5 - count 'em, only 5 - episodes......going to be strong now and not tear up. LOL Feel free to discuss anything Friends related! Your favorite character, episode, etc.
Last night as the episode with Pheobe's wedding (wasn't that just so Phoebe-like?) was near the end, I turned to my oldest daughter Nina, now a devoted Friends fan, and said - Nina, what am I going to do on Thursday nights next year w/o my Friends? Before I could even get sad - she said - Mom, we're going to watch Joey! Just like that I perked up. In my house we're all discussing how the other 5 can pop in on Joey and/or have Thanksgiving reunion shows. The possibilities are endless!
I also said to Nina near the end, I just don't see how they can get Ross and Rachel together so quickly before the finale. They are so far apart romantically now. Then the promo for next week's episode aired and suddenly I was very hopeful. And ready to cry. LOL
Did anyone notice Courteney Cox's waist is not exactly tiny anymore? Yes, I do believe in last night's episode, she was showing already! She has that 17 inch Scarlett O'Hara waist line usually. I only wish they hadn't made her character so anal by now. In the beginning her Type A personality was funny. That was Monica's thing but now it's almost too much. Last night's show is a good example of how the writers have made her a little too controlling.
I'll wait a bit to discuss Phoebe's wedding, to make sure you all watched it by now.

John - I never looked at last night's episode in a weather-related way 'til now!!! Now my family did look over at me with a big sigh when Joey announced the city was experiencing it's worst snowstorm in almost 20 years. Granted, that was a bit much. LOL But hey this is wx related actually.....
On an entirely different note, I think it would be funny for the 6 Friends to finally realize Gunther has had a major crush on Rachel all this time! Seeing him last night made think of that. Not that I want her to rush into his arms, oh no, but it would be a comical moment is all I'm saying!

LOL @ Chandler and Ross fussing about being in the wedding.
I didn't catch it (too busy holding back happy tears for Phoebes and Mike), but did Chappy warm up?
LOL Shawn. Yes Chappy warmed up. Both hubby and I thought he was a goner. But at the end Ross is stuck with the job waiting for Chappy to go. Poop bag in Ross' hand. Too funny. Ross muttering - I did not sign for this job!

Ah, that must have been the scene during the credits. My best friend's fiance wanted to change the channel to "Stripperella" for a second or two and we didn't get to see that last scene of Friends.
Which brings up another question -- when did they start putting soft stuff on regular cable movie channels? Stripperella is just a stupid cartoon, not stuff. But it reminded me of a few nights ago when I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep. I started flipping through the channels and I found some soft stuff crap on HBO. What gives?? I realize it's not the rated XXX stuff because nothing but breasts and butts are seen. So they probably aren't really even engaging in any acts, but it's implied.
It's on in the middle of the night, so I doubt kids would see it and hopefully parents can set the controls to keep kids from viewing anything without permission. But were some of you aware that you didn't have to have those "adult" channels to get that stuff?

Shawn/John - LOL! No I wasn't aware of that. We've never had HBO unless we've been on vacation. Which BTW thanks for that parent alert! I'll be careful if the kids are up late - Disney only!!! They think it's a riot that I've allowed them to watch 2 R rated movies - Dazed & Confused (have to admit I'm hooked on that movie too) and High Fidelity (luv John Cusack). But that's the extent of more adult films they've been allowed to see!!! Appreciate that heads up Duck, even if you didn't intend that.

Yes, I was.
*Hoping my wife never sees this post*
sometimes in the morning I'll scan the 11 hbo channels we have and I'd say once a week there is some movie on called "Dancing at the Blue Lagoon". I don't know what its about, but there is oodles of stripping, and full frontal nudity. Another one that seems to always be replaying is something called "Real Sex". You never know what's going to pop up on one of those episodes.
Back to topic...I guess I'll be reading this post to find out just what the show (Freinds) is all about.

Eleven HBO channels? 11? Wow, j.....we have the lowest satellite channel package....he he Of course I should mention my husband is a tight wad.
Now that said, it isn't too terribly late to jump into the Friends thing. You could catch the many reruns airing everyday and turn off that HBO channel. LOL We could give you a Friends 101 crash course, couldn't we Shawn/John?

I hate to jump into it in the middle of things.
btw..of the 11 HBO channels..2 are kids channels 24/7...another is a spanish version of another channel, one shows old black and whites al the time..
To tell you the truth...I don't even know why we have them! other than they came in a package deal with high speed cable.
btw....Phoebe is the dumb blonde...see I know a little bit about it!

LOL, J. That's one way to put it.
To be honest, Mary, I wasn't a full-fledged devotee until these last couple of seasons. I had to tape ER quite a bit, because a lot of the time I was actually working in one so I couldn't watch. Friends was just sort of a could-see, but not a must-see. And then I got into Survivor and CSI until my best friend convinced me to watch Friends again (well, that and the prospect of steak or sushi dinner cooked by her fiance on our Must-See-TV nights).
Let's see here...
Phoebe is the dumb blonde/musician/massage therapist
Joey is the dumb jock/actor/minister
Ross is the unlucky in love/archaeologist/parent of Emma with Rachel
Monica is the obsessive-compulsive/cook/soon to be adoptive parent with Chandler
Rachel is the one that some people for some reason consider hot/don't know what she did for work except waitressing at Central Perk and then something in an office
Chandler is the pseudo-gay one who's married to Monica/could rarely hold a job

Shawn!!!!
Chandler is not gay!!! Although that's been a running joke since the show premiered.
Tell us how you really feel about Rachel!!! I can tell she's your least favorite female character!
Phoebe - dumb blonde? I beg to differ there. Phoebe seems more in tune with nature, people's feelings, etc. than the rest of the bunch. She may not be a rocket scientist but I've grown to really like her character!
Joey - dumb guy? Yup there, he's been the same clueless loveable friend from the start.
Ross - the same nerdy guy we all like too. The whole time. Maybe more nerdy at times, something I didn't like to see. He's Rachel's lobster ya know.....a little too whimpy at times.
Chandler Bing - you gotta say the whole name for effect. Just luv the guy but he is not gay! No way.
Well, if I think of more I'll post, dinner calls.

Now WidreMann - you did not read my first post here. I asked non-Friends fans to be kind, and ignore this topic. Thanks for following instructions!
For example, I just don't get the Apprentice but I wouldn't dream of knocking the show on that topic here. I play nice.

Friends from a Longtime Viewer's Perspective
I've watched Friends from the beginning, as many people have, so I guess you could call me a fan. But, I do believe that the show has run its course, and should have come to a close a year or two ago.
There's just not much left that can be done with these characters. How many more years can the average person watch Monica take charge, and drive everybody crazy, as in the wedding episode? How many more times can we watch Ross try something new, i.e. the spray tan, and have it go wrong? Chandler, my favorite character, has become more settled down, and just isn't the same now that he's no longer the neurotic that he was in the beginning. Phoebe, aside from meeting her father, gaining a brother, and getting married, hasn't grown much at all. Neither has Joey. They are likable characters, but both are fairly one-dimensional.
As for the Ross/Rachel relationship, it can be summed up perfectly with what he said to Joey: "We haven't been a couple for six years." That is six years in Real Time, everybody. The writer's have been stringing us along on that one for that long in real life, and now that everybody knows that the series is coming to an end, they have absolutely no choice but to bring it to a resolution. Speaking for myself, this makes it rather anti-climatic.
I've enjoyed Friends over the years, but the time has come to close the curtain.
