Will the US coastline see a major cane landfall in 2004?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Will the US coastline see a major cane landfall in 2004?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Jan 22, 2004 6:03 am

Remember this question is for only major hurricane landfalls (cat 3 or higher).

I say one major cane will hit someplace in the US.If you want to say more about why and where a major cane will hit the US or if you say no you can express your opinion.

The most important poll (your predictions) will be posted at april 1.

I believe we are due for a major hurricane, a category 4. This will not be Bret where a major hurricane did hit but it made landfall where no one lived, and this will not be a Lili where it gets to shore and collapses. I have a bad feeling that a major, category 4 hurricane is going to hit the United States, and it will probably be near a populated area. It will probably be on the Gulf Coast.

Alabama? Louisiana? Mississippi? Texas? Or Florida? Tampa has not been hit by a major since 1921, and that I believe was a category 3 hurricane.

Gee, so far I am the only one who thinks a major hit will not happen. I hope for everyone living along the Gulf/Atlantic coast that I am right.

It's been 1999 since the U.S. was last hit by a major hurricane. Climatology says about once every 2-3 years we get hit. Florida is WAY, WAY overdue for a major hit. Coming up on 12 years without a major landfall on the peninsula??? The last warm Atlantic regime saw one hit every 1.6 years. With continued warm water in the western Atlantic, I think storms like Fabian and Isabel will threaten the east U.S. coast from Florida to the Carolinas in 2004 rather than turn north and out to sea and/or weaken significantly before landfall.

Nope--I think a major hurricane landfall will NOT happen in the US because of the active US landfall season of 2003... I think this year, mom nature will spare the US and leave people I disagree with bored---- Hey this is kinda like playing lotto---I'm guessing

The USA has been lucky the past few hurricane seasons. Since I go with trends in weather, I'm going to say NO to a major hurricane landfall on the Atlantic or Gulf coasts. Linda did you get to see President Bush when he visited Gulfport in November?..........MGC

You are lucky getting to see LBJ. I always wanted to see Ronald Reagan. Bush is a first for me.
