Tropical Update: 28 Jan

#1 Postby senorpepr » Wed Jan 28, 2004 5:00 am

A few areas of concern out in the Indian Ocean...

:rarrow: 1) TC Elita (09S). Currently at 15.8S 43.4E and moving N at 7mph. Winds are at 65mph and is forecast to gain in intensity. By 24hrs, expect Elita to reach 85mph just before it makes landfall in Madagascar. Regardless, Elita will be steered to a more easterly track as a mid level ridge begins to influence it.

:rarrow: 2) TC 10S. Currently at 13.2S 64.8E and moving S at 9mph. Winds are at 60mph and is forecast to reach typhoon intensity. Within 48hrs, 10S will reach 110mph. This system is being steered by a low to mid level ridge to the feature's southeast. Meanwhile, two upper level lows are to the system's southwest. These are helping to enhance the system's outflow. This is evident throughout the northern semi-circle.

:rarrow: 3) Invest 91S. Currently at 6.0S 89.5E and moving W at 6mph. Winds are at 30-35mph and has a "good" chance at development, according to the JTWC's TC Formation Alert.

Just to let you know, 91S has become 11S. JTWC doesn't have the official link, but it has been upgraded at nrlmy.navy.mil
