JB afternoon update--Major Winter Storm early next week

#1 Postby Anonymous » Wed Jan 28, 2004 4:12 pm

to summarize---

he says GFS is out of its mind next week(i guess he means with how warm it looks) and there should be a Major Winter Storm(lots of moisture)---he says snow will not be as widespread as this past week but

wintry weather is possible in alot of the same places that got it this past week including the plains and the CAROLINAS...

says could be a cutting storm with a secondary coastal forming...

get ready guys...

That actually makes sense. I have a very difficult time buying Mount Holly NWS forecast of rain with temps near 40 for Monday/Tuesday.

If it runs inland 40's then rain is the rule. I cant see temps Mon-Tues getting past the lower 30's even in the DC area otherwise.

These temps in 40's predictions are and have been 10-20 degrees to high as I stated in Larry's thread starting sunday. The early week event is another clipper, but about 72 hours after that we get into a very different stj/gulf involved scenario.

JB sounds pretty enthusiastic for a significant winter storm next week over the east coast -- it should be noted that he does NOT imply that he is sure it will be a secondary redevelopment -- he basically says even IF it cuts up to the Ohio Valley it would still be forced to redevelop of the coast. Personally, I'm tired of all these Miller B storms where we folks south of the M-D line always have to worry about getting the shaft and would love to see a nice GOM low ride the coast, so that's what I'm hoping for. Either way, looks like JB is beginning to honk from the Carolinas northward.

I heartily agree with the wxdesk and brettjrob.

from what i have seen there is almost a certainty that the carolinas and northeast georgia will see an icing threat come monday. even the gfs is showing cad signitures this far out in the carolinas into ne georgia. which is very impressive this far out considering the gfs handles cad very poorly most of the time in the short range. example, the gfs guidance had northeast georgia in the upper 40s and 50s this past monday. of course we were only in the upper 20s for highs. this mornings run shows freezing temps all the way to the ga/sc line with 20s sneaking their way into the upstate.
