'Becker' fans.....tonight's the last show

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Wed Jan 28, 2004 10:10 am

For all Becker fans out there, if any are members here (I am) you'd better tune into the show tonight, 9:30 p.m. EST. It's the show's finale. Sure sounds like this is finally it for that show.

Read all about it here:

I wish Ted Danson only the best. This was certainly a character very, very different from the loveable one he created on Cheers. Becker was no Sam Malone, but then again I was glad the two characters were world's apart.

RIP Becker......I just wish they could have brought back Reggie for the finale. Now that would have been closure.

WOW! I've heard that "Friends" & "Fraiser" are making their final seasons, but I never heard about "Becker" making it's series finale, but then again, I don't watch that show.

Speaking of Cheers, it's the last season for Frasier also.

I guess what surprised me is this is January! January!!! Whatever happened to airing a series finale in May? Seems this Becker season was iffy, at best, anyway. Sad really. Some shows just never seem to get a network's full support. Becker bounced around a lot, night to night, timeslot to timeslot. It was difficult to keep up when it was airing a few years ago! I heard last season was its last and then voila, it was back this year. Much to the cast's surprise, that's why the character of Bob was gone. That actor took another job.

Well, anyway just didn't want anyone to be caught off guard. I don't want to miss tonight finale.

You know Frasier will be given a big farewell. After 11 seasons it should. As will Friends. I'm a fan of both those shows, huge Friends fan here. I just think it's unfair that some shows just are not given a network's full attention from the start. There are so many shows that lingered in limo and then just disappeared. Dear John seems to fit that category. I liked that show too and never really heard why it was cancelled.

Friends is a cast decision.. Fraiser is the networks decision.. I just dont understand why the would cancel frasier though.. Its a GREAT show and as far as I know got excellent ratings.

Yeah, Becker got the same treatment from CBS that a LOT of ABC shows have had over the past couple of years -- different timeslots, reruns for weeks and then finally showing new airings, long haitus, etc. NBC, for the most part, is usually great about sticking to a schedule during the season, only making changes after the summer break. But I'm still not happy seeing "The Apprentice" tucked into the Must-See-TV sitcom lineup. And they never should have let go of "The Wonderful World Of Disney," "JAG," or "Baywatch." I wasn't a big fan of Baywatch, but it was a ratings grabber and Hasselhoff was smart to syndicate it.

Nothing beats the NBC lineups under Brandon Tartikoff IMHO. He rocked!

I do not understand it either! That is one of my shows and I am still angry. The network is probably making room for another darn reality show. :grr:

Even saw an interview with Frasier on TV and he said he wants to go on and still would if the Networks would. But he said it was basicly already a done deal. :-(

Probably so, It seems that "Fear Factor", "The Apprentice", "Queer Eye...", and "Average Joe" aren't enough for, they gotta have more reality TV.

I think one reason a show like Frasier is encouraged to bow out, is cost. Each season it get more expensive to produce. And some have said it JTS when Daphne and Niles finally tied the knot. I don't know about that but for 7 seasons she had no idea he was interested in her! IMO, their romance took too long. But I still watch and will right up until the end. I still say the 5 core members have that ensemble cast feel - Frasier, Marty, Niles, Daphne and Roz. It should go on on top if it's time.

It was definitely cute back when Niles was so head-over-heels for Daphne and she was completely aloof towards him. But IMO, I don't think it jumped after they married. I don't really think it jumped at all. But then again, I rarely like to say that any of my faves ever JTS. Not ER, not Third Watch, not SVU, not Facts of Life.

On the other hand, Xena JTS big time in the last couple of seasons. It just got weird. And L.A. Law jumped it when Abby left, but that was only because I was an Abby fan, so I didn't like it as much afterwards.

Shawn - me too. I get very attached to my shows and rarely if ever say a defining JTS moment happens. I hang in there until the bitter end in some cases. LOL Take ER, it's not at all the same show I loved dearly almost 10 years ago. Even with Carter and Susan back, it's just not the same. I miss Mark first and foremost, always will, then Carol and Doug. They are still definite pieces to the ER puzzle missing, IMHO.

I've enjoyed Frasier the most when the group takes a trip somewhere or host an ill fated party. One on one the characters aren't as good as when they're playing off eachother. Like when Niles was driving the Winebago, 'stole' the wrong one, etc. Hilarious. Another is when Niles gets drunk and sleeps with Lilith. Or the ski trip from years ago with the French Ski Instructor along. Niles is after Daphne, Daphne and Roz are after the ski instructor, who's gay, he's after Frasier, Frasier's after some girl he brought along, who Marty may be interested in also. They all turn in early one night, and one by one the doors to their separate bedrooms open, hoping for rendevoux's. Do you remember that episode? Again, hilarious. Priceless Frasier moments. Now that we know the show's ending, it would be nice for Frasier to finally find happiness. Not holding my breath on that one!

LOL! I vaguely remember all the details about that one and I haven't seen it since then in a rerun, but I do recall the hilarious twists with all the love interests. I hope I can catch again. :)

Frasier and Niles -- the two gayest straight guys on TV.

Maybe Shelley Long will return for the grand finale?

Speaking of Carol, did you know that originally she wasn't supposed to live past the first episode? Her suicide "attempt" was supposed to be successful, but the writers changed their minds after seeing Julianne Margulies in the role.

LOL @ "I pity the poor bastard who's married to her!" -- Ted Danson as Becker, talking about Mary Steenburgen's character. ROFLMBO @ "I'll be in room one with Mr. Nielsen. You know, I don't see what the problem is. These numbers aren't that bad."

Shawn - I did read that about Carol's character. I'm glad they didn't kill her off! I love the ER 2 hour pilot. It's right up there with Carol's ill fated wedding to tag. Both shows were superb in bringing the entire cast together - you could feel the comraderie. An all for one, one for all attitude. That seems to be missing now on ER.

I was pleased with Becker's finale tonight. I missed the first part, have it on tape though. My daughter had a meeting that went til 9:30, so we were hurrying home to catch Becker. I need to watch that part with his wife on it. LOL Way to tell 'em Ted!!!

Well, I feel silly! How'd I miss your post the first time, Stooge? I must have looked silly mentioning Frasier two posts later, didn't I? :) Gotta admit, it was a busy day at work, so forgive me?

Dr. Becker and I would not have had a very good patient/doctor relationship...but I am going to miss that cast of characters for sure.

I couldn't wait to hear the next lines from Linda or Bob in each show. I know people in real life just like those two! That makes it even more special.

Seems like I always lose the shows I like..so it is no surprise that Becker is next.

Won't be long and I'll be stuck watching Wheel of Fortune as the only thing that seems to have eternal life!!!!

Going to miss that wacky group of characters too Steve. Jim and I have tallied up a long list of shows that just seemed to disappear. Dear John, Grand, Minute with Stan Hooper (recently read it was cancelled), etc. We also were fans of Third Rock! Now that was a wacky set of characters.....we knew it was ending and didn't miss it. And here's another quirky show we were once into, he'd kill me for saying it, Alf! We never did find out if he went home to his planet or not. LOL
