DC area thru next 24 hours

#1 Postby WEATHER53 » Mon Jan 26, 2004 11:39 pm

Been away since 7pm so maybe some of this is old news but first thing is precip shield down in southern/sw virginia that was not being discussed as of late aftenoon/ early evening and is not moving e or even ene but more like ne and it is snow down there so having a hard time figuring a.why it would miss us and b. why it would be anything other than snow. High pressure is still just northeast of great lakes, not off coast of maine, and cold air looks to hang. I do not see a big freezing rain storm for DC metro, I think tomorrow is mostly sleet, frz drizzle and snow with some light freezing rain of less than 0.1" and then a change back to all snow in late afternoon that accumulates 1-2". I do not believe the temp will exceed 32 at DCA tomorrow and well may not get out of upper 20's.

I was starting to think I was going stark crazy lol. There is precip moving NE from NC, in fact it is already into VA as we speak. The temp here in Woodbridge is 20 degrees.

Remember how we were supposed to have some frzra tonight? That forecast was as of last night. Then earlier this afternoon, the NWS called it off. Now tonight, all of a sudden this precip that at 4pm was just blossoming over the Gulf States, has been moving NE all evening and is now pretty much knocking at our doorstep here in N VA.

BTW, the column is all moistened up here in Woodbridge, Temperature is 20 degrees, Dewpoint is 20 degrees.

What Gives?

At 6 am, it was freezing drizzle in Arlington, stuck on 22 degrees still. I had cleaned off my car yesterday, but it had recaptured the last bits of yesterday's snow, plus there appears to be a deceptive 1/8 inch of clear slippery stuff on the sidewalk (and of course all over the car).

Use caution while walking or driving!

I cleared my cars down to about an inch but left the rest of snow as would rather try to push off some ice encrusted snow than spend half hour scraping 1/8th" ice. Good technique that only backfires if snow becomes saturated and refreezes.

Idea of non major ice storm for DC metro looks like a good one, bulk of precip moving in appearing to be sleet/snow mix. temp has held in upper 20's, still think get 1-2" more before ending around 8 pm.

No. Shenandoah Valley has already picked up 2.5 inches of snow this afternoon, heavy at times.

26 inches so far from Dec 03 - Jan 04

No sure how you are referencing "No" It has been my postings that DC was not going to experience major icing like 1994 or 1999 and in fact what is coming through looks like a 2-3 hour period of mostly sleet and snow.

4pm update

Moderate precipitation has begun in Greenbelt, MD. Would describe as 80% sleet, 10% fr rain, 10% wet snow.

Just had a period of heavy sleet move through. Accumulated quick, thankfully it did not last very long. Sleet balls almost like small hail. Everything is ice, even treated surfaces in places. Be careful.

I think this is the last bark of a dying dog, at least for Downtown DC. I don't see any additional accumulation for DC.

And Wx53, for those of us who look at more than one board, it your last post was amusing. There is some inconsistency in identities, but the substance remains the same.

Any comment?

AND YOUR POINT?????????[/quote]

Why are you yelling? Sheesh. My point:

1) Despite the calls for 1-3 inches of new snow in DC, I believe there will be none. As in not even a dusting.

2) The exact same post appeared here and on WWBB. Here it had Wx53's name, on WWBB it had LadyWx. I was curious why s/he did that.

No need to yell.

Well sorry for yelling but as im sure you well know alot of people have been coming over here in there best way possible to bait certain ones that have been leaving and going back to wwbb and YES i did see the post you are referring to and i know the whole story as well. I dont care what happens over there but do not bring it over here. Wanna ask him then reply to that post there or ask in private this does not belong on the board.

Well, I asked in a way that would not bring it out, but you pushed it. And, I sent you a PM explaining it you, and asking you to delete your post.

That offer still stands.

I gotta ask, why does it matter if someone posts on different boards with different names? Asked in a way that would not bring it out? you are kidding right? lol.. You aksed why he posts the same thing at wwbb but under a different name, then asked him to comment on it.. How is that not bringing it out?

The offer might as well sit down ;-)

and BTW.. Dont EVER bash me for my spelling and grammer again when I see more mistakes in your posting then I ever have ;-) Hows it go? Those that live in glass houses?

Wow, you guys get so wound up everything. I was trying to avoid a fight, not start one. I was just curious why Wx53 was using multiple identities - I actually did not know the history of this when I made my post. I have since been directed to a thread detailing the debate. So now I have my answer.

As for your comment about my spelling and grammar, I would only say, Chad, that my mistakes are from haste. Unlike others, I do not make the same mistakes over and over, suggesting that I simply do not know better.

And I have never bashed you for anything, much less for grammar. I have disagreed with you, and will likely continue to. Welcome to America.

didn't PM me making fun of my spelling? Not going to argue with you.. You know you did and I know you did ;-)

Anyways sorry for your thread turning into this crap weather53.. It ends here.. Continue on with your discussion :-)

Heavy snow now, 1/2" in last 20 minutes, became all snow about 5:15 but was "sleety" type snow, no real flakes, now moderate with ehavy intensity. Temp down to 26.

Still snowing moderate to heavy, radar looks like at least another hour of it, probably end up close to 2".
