The latest from Gary Grey

#1 Postby RU848789 » Mon Jan 26, 2004 6:11 pm

Well, he admits he blew the second storm, at least for the NYC metro region, where he had it being mostly rain and sleet yeaterday, but now it's mostly snow, with 8-12" from where just south of me through NYC (yea!), but rapidly decreasing amount as one goes S and E, such that areas like Asbury Park and Trenton are in the 4-8" band, and it diminishes down to 1-2" from about Brick (sorry 1evan) over to about Newark DE.

I'm certainly nervous, as I'm not far from being much less snow, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Man, you central/southern NJ people and SE PA people must be really on the edge.

I am pretty excited at this point, because I'm in the highest accumulation area on all of the maps that I've seen so far (DT, Quincy, meteotrade, etc....) :D

I hope we ALL get BLASTED with HEAVY SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gary Gray is being a bit conservative with his map, actually.

Actually, he wasn't conservative at all in hindsight (assuming the current converging lowered predictions verify); as GG said, he hates over-predicting, since he hates over-hyped events and obviously he over-predicted some here, given his revised forecast. He's now almost perfectly in line with the revised NWS predictions of about 4-8" for Central Jersey and most of north Jersey (i.e. north of a line from about Sandy Hook across to just north of Trenton) and 8-12" only in a narrow bullseye band encompassing NYC, the immediate NYC suburbs within about 10-15 miles of NYC, the northern half of LI and a narrow band of the south CT coast. And he still has the snow decreasing rapidly off to the south, with Philly to about Manasquan getting 1-2". and points south of about AC to Newark Delaware gettin zilch. Ouch.
