Wintry Mix in N.VA??

#1 Postby TBird » Mon Jan 26, 2004 12:48 pm

I know I am new to all of these, but TWC, local mets and folks here have talked about a wintry mix this afternoon, pm, morning, etc for the N.VA area. Yet, when I look at the maps, I don't see where it is coming from--unless--it is that storm in SC/NC border. Is that it?

I believe the storm in NC/SC is it, TBird.

I think our best shot at more substantial precip will be tomorrow into tomorrow night with the low expected to take shape off the NC coast and ride up the east coast. We could see a mix of sleet and freezing rain at the beginning, turning over to snow towards the end. Amounts will not be a ton... maybe up to a quarter inch of ice and 1-3 inches of snow... but it'll probably be enough to cause more problems for the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.

Okay--thanks for the info. I guess it is the precip down in NC right now.

While this is a whole lot of fun and all, here in NVA we have got to get these kids back in school!!! The way it is going now, it is very possible it will be a late arrival on THURSDAY before we go back.

Just breathe deep and go with the flow I guess :-?

Yeah, I sure hope I get another day off tomorrow (and throw in Wednesday for the hell of it :)). As of right now Page and Madison counties are already closed but they're the same ones that shut down for the dusting we got from a clipper a few weeks ago. I think we've got a decent shot at delays at least, and some closings. Maybe a better chance Wednesday if we can get some ice and snow tomorrow evening and overnight.

from the scientiic forecast disc at 10 am at sterling va

Lowered highs everywhere and went with persistence. Highs perhaps a
degree or so above yesterdays highs. Still everyone below freezing today.
Again think that through 7am Tuesday the most likely scenario to occur is
occasional - as county warning area remains dry-slotted.

Same here! Another day off tomorrow would be awesome! So far the list of closeings:

MD: NONE
VA: Orange, Madison, Spotsylvania, and Page counties.
