The 12z eta is INCREDIBLE for 42 hrs. Just look at the 6 hr qpf forecast.

I cant recall a time when Ive seen the 6 hr forecast for a snowstorm put down 1.25" in the NY area. Can you imagine.. over a foot in just 6 hrs?!!!!!!!! And thank goodness the 850 frz line which, at 36 hrs, had pulled slightly north of NYC for a short time, is now well south and east, due to Strong Bombogenysis down to 988 mb off the delmarva coast..

This storm looks like a very heavy snow event in a short period of time from PHL to southern New England. Rates could exceed 2 or 3 inches of snow per hour, esp. in NE NJ and the NYC area. Of course, this is the ETA so the QPF is likely overstated. But I would take half of what it is currently showing.

Reminds me of a storm I believe it was in 2000-2001 in January I think. The storm bombed off the coast of NJ/DelMarVa and we got about 9 or 10" of snow in about 6 hours or so. It was an awesome storm. I loved it. This may be like that..

Eddie - this looks a LOT like Dec. 30, 2000. That storm dropped 7 inches on my area in 4 hours. Places 50 miles west of me did not see a flake. A friend of mine near the Delaware County/Chester County border got an inch. BWI and DC got completely hosed. But places farther north and east got a TON of snow - especially northern NJ.

If this verifies, what a storm it would be!

I'm not yet sold on it and will wait for runs of the other computer guidance and also SREF.

These kinds of systems that bomb off the Delmarva rarely produce any snowfall of consequence for central Virginia. The next possibility for a significant snowfall in Central VA probably will not occur until roughly the February 2-3 timeframe if a Gulf of Mexico storm develops.
