Stay safe, David! Even though we're only
getting rain, that's a reminder for me to
make sure there's plenty of kerosene,
lamp oils and candles, batteries for the
flashlight, plus, extra water and canned
foods. I remember our last ice storm in '93,
and, we were without power for several weeks!

I was just getting ready to update in my Lawrence weather thread!! Maybe I'll just post in this thread tonight!!! It sure took Topeka long enough to get on board with this!!!! Now that they are, I'm getting real nervous about it actually happening-we are still mainly sunny with the temp. at 40 degrees-when we have weather like this forecasted and it stays sunny all day, it has a real hard time verifying-it has before and can, it just seems in the past 5-10 years that it busts when the clouds don't form-usually indicates we are getting dry slotted or the energy is moving north or south of us-we shall see-we have about 8 hours to cool off!! (I shouldn't be hoping for an ice storm, but I'm so wintered starved I'll even take that!!) Hey check out the Gfs for Monday-we may be getting a better snow than we thought!!! The artcic express is being derailed-they are pushing if not cancelling the artic invasion for end of the week!! Still looks on for Sunday, but temps. now look to be about 40 degrees warmer than forecasted yesterday!! I'll upddate in this thread as the night goes on-I'm dadius maximus tonight so my 4 year old will be helping me!!
I sure hope we play better tomorrow-that was the hardest game I've ever sat through on Thursday at Allen Field House!!

Well, it seems the ducks are on the pond!! Our temp. is now at 32 degrees and dropping-we are still fighting really dry air so it will take quite a while for the precip. to start falling-sat. images seem to have the low over New Mexico and ejecting a good plume of moisture North East-I wonder however if this pup is not going to go a little further south than they thought earlier today?? I realize we are in a potentially dangerous situation and I shouldn't be excited about ice, but I'm so ready for winter weather that I'm really excited about this tonight!! We'll see what the next 8-10 hours bring-anything that falls should freeze with the temps now and with the fairly clear skies, we should possibly drop off a little more-maybe 27-28 degrees before precip. starts!! Still even excited about Monday as models trending that a little bit bigger than yesterday-hopefully artic express will still come next weekend. I'll bore you with more updates later!!

Quick update from Lawrence: temp=31 degrees; East wind at 10-15 mph;
dew point 22 degrees-they have extened the ice storm warning to 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. Light percip. is slowly starting to make its way North-Currently reporting freezing drizzle in Emporia about 50-60 miles to my south-expected to over run my area by midnight tonight. There is alot of dry air here for the moisture to overcome-seems like the low is slowing down a bit and not moving out as fast as earlier thought hence the extension of the advisory. Maybe since this slowing down it may slow down Monday's wave and that is why the latest models are having it come in a bit stronger-just a Latin teachers guess!! However, it seems by satalite imagery, that alot of the moisture is heading due east and not really comming North-maybe storm is going more south then when it moves out it will then shove more mositure North-thus to the east of me?? My only reason for saying this besides what the sat. image shows, is that this scenario has happened quite often here in the past 10-15 years. Have a great evening!!

The radar is indeed starting to light up-it will take some time to moisten all the way to the ground but it sure looks like it is beginning-temps. below freezing with a strong east wind. NWS has extended the Ice Storm Warning until 4:00 P.M. tomorrow!! This could really get messy here in the next 4-6 hours!! The NWS is not saying much about the snow on Monday-sure seems to give us more snow than what they are saying!! I'll be posting for a while-I'm pretty fired up about this right now!!

It is starting to spit a bit-nothing real organized-really just drizzle-things are really looking to begin to get messy here!!! I've spent all day looking at weather boards and radars following this thing when I should have been working getting my lectures ready!!!! I'm not quitting yet-must admit, I'd be pretty disappointed if I did this all day and we end up with a little freezing drizzle and then a turn to rain!! I still say watch the storm behind this one-things look a little interesting!!
