That's great, Derek. I will read your abstract soon. Dry air is a big killer of tropical cyclones, at least from what I've seen, so I will be very interested in your abstract.

I can remember "Dolly" deflating like a hot air ballon with a hole punched in it. And Lili entrained some dry air- as did Isabel.

Do not be nervous, enjoy speaking as it is your chance to be a star for a few minutes. That will lead to more chances to speak and present. Have fun with it.

Yeah, 15 minutes to present findings from 17 years worth of SSMI data, as well as 6 years of dropsonde data. If I have time, I will include some flight level data and maybe TMI as well

A cool honor to say the least. I am sure your discussion will be perfect. You know your subject very well which will diminsh any nervous anxiety. I do not care for public speaking which made teaching 5-day software training courses stressful. I always did just fine and found knowing the subject very well and envisioning myself teaching the course resolved much of the stress. You are a very focused and knowledgeable thus once you start you discussion you will have no room for nervousness. Contrgats again!

Just as an update as to where the research has been going.

The 2 page manuscript in due by Feb 6. This will be available as a PDF file and am hoping that the AMS makes these available by the beginning of March.

There does seem to be some correlation between dry air and weakening when making a compisite of all storms, but the results are a bit interesting and are not what one may think. However, it should be noted that Lili and Isabel were extremely moist when they weakened; however, this may also be explainable based upon the research of a fellow officemate

Will have more once the manuscript is available and after I give the presentation, I will make the presentation figures available online.

Great Derek. I'll be there at the conference all week as a listener, so I'll look for you there. It's a tough assignment, but somebody has to go to Miami Beach for a week in the spring.
