What a tease--- :)

#1 Postby bfez1 » Fri Jan 16, 2004 11:41 am

Excerpt from the NWS - New Orleans this morning.

THE ONLY OTHER THING TO WATCH IS EARLY MONDAY MORNING. WITH COLD AIR SPILLING ACROSS THE REGION AND A STRONG SHORT WAVE CAUSING ENOUGH DEFLECTION IN THE MASS FIELD IT CREATES A SFC TROUGH AND SWINGS IT THROUGH THE AREA MAKING USE OF THE RESIDUAL MOISTURE THROWN BACK OVER THE SYSTEM CAUSING RAIN AND DZ AS ANOTHER SURGE OF COOL DRY AIR IS BROUGHT DOWN. ATTM WE BELIEVE THE FREEZING LEVEL WILL BE TOO HIGH FOR ANY TYPE OF FROZEN PRECIP DUE TO THE OVERRUNNING WARM AIR DUE TO OCCLUSION. BUT THIS WILL BE WATCHED.

But hey, it's a chance. Better than no chance at all!!!

I hope you get enough cold air for wintry precipitation, Bonnie.

Bonnie, I'm hoping John or David respond to that post over on wwltv.com. I'm assuming that's where you saw that. ;)

Actually David just posted in a new post on wwltv.com. For those in the dark, David and John are local TV mets in New Orleans.

"A new gulf low arrives next wednesday and thursday. don't be surprised if a wintry mix shows up along the I-20 corridor!

And, who knows, with the really cold upper level temps with the upper low on Monday, there might be some wintry reports around. Probably not enough moisture by then, however."

I was just about to post this same paragraph for the NWS New Orleans forecast discussion. If this air mass is a little colder than currently progged (if you remember the last cold snap turned out much colder than they thought until pretty much the day it arrived) we could see some sleet/flurries in south Louisiana. Things could get interesting but for now I'm looking forward to all the rain and severe weather threat tonight and saturday
