From what I've read, this doesn't happen that often, but heavy bands of snow are being generated by the cold winds passing over the warm ocean/bay and the snow's being deposited across the Cape and the Islands - calling for 3-9", with variations being quite high over small distances; see the link below. Sounds pretty cool. Going well below zero in New England tonight - my brother just moved to Burlington, VT 2 months ago and it's already -11F there and going down to -15F - he's a bit of a snow hound too, so he's having fun. Not that cold here, but 2F is pretty damn cold for Central Jersey and it's expected to hit about 0 to -3F in these parts - even Central Park is down to 2F and the record there is 1F, with -2F forecast. This is way cool. Or should I say way cold.

Ocean Effect Snow on Cape Cod

These conditions are my idea of fun weather to enjoy at this time of year.
The warnings are really interesting.
You folks are so very lucky.
1) Exposed flesh will develop frostbite in 10 minutes.
2) You will enjoy bands of Ocean-Effect Snow, to the tune of 3 to 9 inches.
3) Ambient temperatures will fall to near ZERO.
4) You will enjoy NW winds to 30 to 40 mph.
5) You will get to experience wind chills to -25 to -35, possibly as cool as -45 degrees tonight.
6) Machinery will be challenged by the cold conditions.
7) No children are to be out in this. Personally, if anyone makes children go out in these prime winter conditions, I think they should be tied up and left outside in the cold to die.
8) Boats out in the ocean will enjoy the privilege of trying to deal with gale-force winds, as well as getting to enjoy the freezing-spray issues and the fun of watching ice accretion on exposed objects.
9) As snow on the Cape accumulates, people there will be treated to prime blowing and drifting of the snow. Visibilities will be nil. Blowing snow may create whiteout conditions.
10) It is so cold there, and the wind is so strong, with associated cooling issues, that harbor ice is actually forming and will be on the increase.
In short, you are being treated to some of the most prime winter conditions that the CONUS can offer!!! Dress in layers, be cautious and enjoy the snow, freezing spray accretion, blowing and drifting and the refreshing wind chills!!! Keep all children inside; this weather is NO place for them.
I wish to God that I was there!! I would be well-dressed for this weather, but I would be having a very, very good time!!!
Man you folks are such lucky dogs!!!
Enjoy that arctic air!!! Enjoy the snow!!!!
