I Give Up..............

#1 Postby NCGal » Thu Jan 15, 2004 6:21 pm

It seems like NC is just doomed to get any decent snowfall. The weather stations seem to have it in the forecast one day then take it out the next. We did get 3 1/2 -4 inches last Friday but we want to see a big one!!! Any chances of seeing a decent measurable snowfall this winter for NC? What are your thoughts?

Please don't give up, North Carolina. I still think you'll see a good snow before the winter is over.

We need to start our own SE/MA/NE Snowbound Train!!!! :)

The Euro is chock full of good news...Day 7 has a low over the FLA panhandle and the 850 mb 0 line in SC....The entire 5-10 day pattern on the Euro is in excellent shape to deliver something over the next two weeks to a good chunk of the snow starved southeast....

with the PV becoming re-established further north more in touch with what is normal climatologically speaking instead of being displaced VERY far to the southeast across either new england SE canada or newfoundland theres a much better chance for amplification of the northern branch and phasing down the road providing that everything sets-up correctly.

when the PV is displaced that far south and as strong as it has been lately the jet strengthens underneath which doesnt allow for alot of amplification of shortwaves moving through the flow. the best example being todays clipper.

And given the southern stream s/w's generally shear out in the confluent zone given the strength and the severe displacement of the PV. Amazing...

Seriously, at least you got 3 1/2 inches. Isnt that your normal yearly snowfall out east?

I never understood how people in raleigh and points east could ever complain about winter again, especially after January 2000 and January 2002.

lol we are lucky...to tell you the truth i don't think we'll see a big one for a few years given the fact that we have been so lucky recently. But heck there is always that chance.

I think they said Raleigh averages 6 inches a year on WRAL-TV earlier this winter.

has snow in our forecast for the 22nd and the 24th...... Let's just hope it stays that way. We had a blast with the Jan. 2000 snow, would love to see something like that again but that's probably doubtful as I am 33 and have NEVER seen snow like that here before. Let It Snow!!!!

nc snow

#15 Postby ncwx » Fri Jan 16, 2004 11:05 am

With the PV maybe getting back to a more normal position, this reminds me of an old wives tale. Sometimes it is too cold for snow. Given the PV explanation, I can see where the tale came from.
