Tour bus hits tour bus north of Baker; 105 injured

#1 Postby Rob-TheStormChaser » Mon Mar 10, 2003 12:10 am

There were 105 people injured Sunday when one tour bus hit another tour bus on southbound Interstate 15, the main artery from Las Vegas into California.

The accident north of Baker shut down both southbound lanes and slowed northbound traffic.

California Highway Patrol Officer Adam Cortinas said the crash took place about 3:20 p.m.

He estimated the buses were traveling about 55 mph through an area undergoing road construction when one bus hit the rear of the other bus. Posted speed limit in the area is 70 mph.

He said it wasn't immediately determined why the crash occurred. Cortinas added that injuries ranged from minor to critical and that passengers were being taken to nearby hospitals.

He said buses from Clark County, Nev. and helicopters from Fort Irwin arrived to help ambulances and medical helicopters transport the injured, many of whom were taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Perhaps speed limits in road construction zones needed much more reduction.

They must do things differently in CA....construction crews are needlessly killed all the time because idiots dont slow down....it takes national attention and stepping up patrols undercover to nail these people. Most zones here are 25-45 at best.
