What is the potential for a MECS Next Weekend? Jan 18th-20t

#1 Postby Chris the Weather Man » Sun Jan 11, 2004 12:20 pm

Anyone, have any ideas?

I Would like to a 1996 Repeat, But Yet, It very hard to get a repeat of 1996 Blizzard. But, Will this be on par, if not stronger than the President day Blizzard? I still want to see about 25-30 inches of snow.............

IMO, the potential has decreased a lot. We'll see though.

I agree with Colin, much less potential now then just a few days ago, but still plenty of time for that to change

So is there still a chance for a pretty large storm sometime near the 20th? I have been hearing people talk about a big storm to come and it seems like it keeps getting pushed back.

Not always ...

The Blizzard of 1996, The Superstorm of 1993 were all seen well ahead in advance, and also basically so was the Blizzard of 1978 ... Why? Relatively simple pattern ...

Unlike our current situation where we basically have the map littered with s/w systems, this and that. Timing issues, and a very complex situation with plays HAVOC with NWP models. This is the same kind of complex pattern that happened with JAN 24-25, 2000 for example.

Good post, SF. The potential exists for a nice storm, now let's see how things play out over the next 10 days.
