Our type of "lake affect"

#1 Postby Dave C » Sun Jan 11, 2004 11:12 am

Here in New England Sat. we had our own version of "lake Affect snow". As the arctic air moved north to south across Cape Cod bay snow bands set up over Cape Cod bringing localized 3-6 inch amounts to locations such as Chatham and Provincetown. These bands will also move over SE Mass when winds turn more NE but not with this particular event, they remained North. They never reach the intensity of lake affect but due to high ratios like 1 inch liquid=20 in. snow they can still be quite substantial. The more experienced guys on this board could likely explain why salt water is not as condusive to this affect as fresh water(great lakes").
