hi, everyone. I have a question about the mid week system. I live in a immidiate suburb of philly, and I heard my local accuweather forecast this morning say a high of 25 on wednesday, then snow wednesday night into thursday morning, with a high of only 16 thursday, meaning temps in the teens for most of storm. MY question is what kind of ratio are we talking here, 15:1, 20:1? Also has much liquid is now expected?
thanks

Thstorm87,
In general, when the temperature is between 15F and 19F, the snow-to-water ratio is 20:1.

and for those of you in DCA...PHL and NYC which would like a significant high-ratio snow/liquid event. the 12z run this afternoon of the UKMET has your storm.

has 996 low over central VA at 96hrs. this solution supports last nights run of the EC...and this afternoon 12z JMA run. the only difference with JMA is that it has the low further to the east sitting along the VA capes.

the system WILL be able to throw back atlantic moisture as it bombs out off the east coast into the very cold air back to the northwest.
its possible that this turns into a major wind whipped ---- ~20:1 ratio snowstorm across eastern MD...Northeast VA...NJ...DE...LI...E PA...CT...RI...SE MA.

IF this theoretical storm actually obtained and verified, how much snow would it dump on N VA?
Thanks, JEB

easily
4-8 sounds good to me. It's certainly something to watch Wednesday Night and especially into Thursday with wind whipped and potentially heavy snow. Some high ratios are definite with this, especially the later we go into the event with over 20:1 ratios quite likely as colder air moves in Thursday.
