I should probably know better by now ... but after watching JB's videos this morning and seeing the ensembles, it looks like the 7-15 day period ahead will be very cold and stormy for most of the U.S.
And for those of us "Southern folk," there looks to be an active Southern stream of energy undercutting the cold ridge. Will the snow geese in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi finally get fed??
It's kinda exciting!

JB isn't -removed- there.
The GFS is once again clueless to the pattern, so you can throw that out, even though it is hinting at a few things.
JB is probably spot on with what is going to happen. It seems this winter has been threatening the brutal cold and it may not be denied like it was in 2000.
But only time will tell.

Having lived in Baton Rouge all of my 42 or so years, I can rememer about a dozen times we have had measurable sneaux.
Only about 3 of those times was it forecasted.
On the other hand I can remember several times it was forecasted and nothing materialized.
Lets keep our hopes up and fingers crossed that we get the cold and the southern jet cranks not too strong and not too weak.

An early Friday morning review of last night's Euro run and the 0Z GFS run still look very cold for the South from TX, through LA, MS, and AL, for the latter part of next week.
And what's that I see by 1/16... southern stream energy??!!!
And what's that I hear outside ... sounds like "snow geese" honking from Dallas, through Austin and Houston, into Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
-removed- ... maybe. But the models are trending more cold each run for the South along with a POTENTIAL for precip.
Who knows ... maybe Snowmeiser just knocked out his brother Heatmeiser for a bit!!

Bring it on!
Bring on the cold...only if there is winter precip with it lol. I hated that cold rain we had all day yesterday. Isn't it strange how, here in the south, more often than not, when we get a nice shot of cold air we'll have temps in the 20's or even teens.....but the sky is chrystal clear! But let a cloud appear and the temps magically rise above freezing just in time for the snow to fall in liquid form!
My only worry with the possibility of severe cold is my cows. I only have 3 cows. 2 of them are Holsteins and one is giving me almost 4 gallons of milk a day. I also have 2 six day old bull calves that I just bought (to feed the milk to). I put the little ones in the barn yesterday am to get them out of the rain, but would really like to put them outside to get some fresh air and sunshine (I don't particularly care for scooping calf poop off of the barn floor
). But if it'll snow, I'll make that sacrifice.
Keep us southern snow lovers posted on this potential event.

OK Folks. JB says that we (Southern snow geese) may face two episodes of freezing precipitation: next weekend and the middle of the following week. Based on the model runs and what the pros and even NWS is now saying, the cold looks like it will definitely be in place for us.
I don't want any freezing rain/drizzle crud. We know that all too well. Bring me the white stuff!!!
I'd love to know what DT or KOW or other S2K experts think about this threat. Thoughts?

The models are consistently hinting(at a minimum)in varying degress at the scenario you describe with the 21st-24th being the time frame for the stronger of the two pushes. That time frame, if it verifies, will see what appear to me to be record temps all over the deep South starting here in TX and moving East, especially with the second system.
