Wilmington OH hints at snowy/ potentially dangerous times

#1 Postby meso_jr » Wed Jan 07, 2004 5:05 pm

This is somewhat strange for ILN to even mention something long/medium term. For this week, however, I am thinking that KOW is right. TWC calling for 4" total, so 2-5" isn't impossible. I am anxious to see what happens this weekend with the ice, and it looks like another Arctic blast this time with a possible storm next week. Let's roll. :D

.LONG TERM...
BROAD MEAN TROF OVER EASTERN U.S. THROUGH THE EXTENDED WILL BE
ACTIVE WITH POLAR JET STREAM DIPPING INTO GREAT LAKES REGION. THIS
WILL PROVIDE SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR WINTERY PRECIPITATION.
EXTENDED MODELS ARE HAVING TROUBLE AGREEING ON PLACEMENT AND NUMBER
OF PRECIP EVENTS...THUS WILL GO WITH MORE OF A MEAN. IN OTHER
WORDS...CONFIDENCE IS GOOD ON COLD WEATHER AND PRECIP BUT CONFIDENCE
IS LOW ON THE TIMING. FIRST SHOT APPEARS TO BE SUNDAY
NIGHT/MONDAY. CONCERNED ABOUT POTENTIAL OF FREEZING RAIN WITH
BOUNDARY LAYER BEING QUIET COLD AND WARM AIR ADVECTION BEING A QUICK
SHOT. BUT WILL NOT MENTION IN FORECAST YET AND WAIT UNTIL EVENT
GETS CLOSER IN TIME. NEXT SHOT COMES WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY AS
ARCTIC AIR DIVES SOUTH. OPERATIONAL MRF DEVELOPS A DESCENT LOW
ALONG ARCTIC FRONT. HOW REAL IS THIS FEATURE? TIME WILL TELL.
STUCK CLOSE TO MAN PROGS FOR TEMPS WITH TIMING UNCERTAINTY.
