Why I'm not a big fan of snow anymore

#1 Postby wxnut » Tue Jan 06, 2004 5:47 pm

Here is the reason that I don't like snow like I used to. I used to pray for snowstorms and blizzards just like the rest of the snowlovers, but I drive a tractor trailer for a living, and this is the result of heavy snow and poor driving conditions.

I drove through these squalls today, but thank God I wasn't on the interstate, but on a 2 lane state highway in a small town when it hit. Visisbility was near zero. Driving conditions terrible. I for one don't care if I ever see another snowflake again. I consider myself very fortunate that I am home safe, able to post this message, and not tangled up in the mess on I-80.

Yup, my dad died in a crash (car, not big rig) while driving on ice and snow. I can relate. It's beautiful, but it's a bear to deal with on the roads.

Driving in the snow can be very dangerous. It is terrible to hear about the situation on I-80. Of course, I am a complete lunatic and still want to see snow.

For the record everyone, I posted this so you guys wouldn't flame me if I make any "anti-snow" comments. I wanted you all to know where I am coming from. I didn't post it to steal the thunder from those of you who love snow. I am still a weather "nut", I just enjoy it better when it is tranquil.

The squalls that came through today were incredible. I work in Wilkes-Barre. I had an inch of snow on my windows ledge at work after about 10 minutes. The roads were covered in a few minutes.

The snow was coming down so hard that the telephone poles actually had a layer of snow on one side.

there were several accidents yesterday. The biggest one include 40 vehicles --30 were tractor trailers. I80 is still closed in centre counrty, the vehicles are still burning.
