WWBB No Longer Exists
That is the message I get on the internet and thru google. This is a new twist on a very old theme. There was some disucssion about yet another server being mailed or carried via horseback from point a to point b but we have been through this at least once before when there was a miracle mailing that would end all the outages, the site was down for two weeks, and within a week there were problems again. So good to be back here again, too back we cannot get the masses to settle on a BB that is reliable, and at some point we will flock back to WWBB again, and be out of service-again.

NoVaSnow,
It's possible that there was a brief window during which people could log into WWBB. Once in, they can probably post messages, read messages, etc.
Unfortunately, many cannot get in and are probably "locked out" until the service has been fully restored.
Also, for what it's worth, I get the following when I run a Google search, so I'm sure that this is a temporary database problem and not a permanent loss of the site:

Right now the DNS just doesn't resolve, so something is most likely being moved. Should be noted that WW appears to use a third party DNS service, so it might be them who are having the problems. If the DNS records were updates, it would explain why some people can access it and some can't- the update is not an instant process for everyone.
The only reliable board we could ever use is one meant for heavy use, like an EZboard. This board hasn't even come close to have 200 online uses, let alone 300, so it's reliability is far from proven.

what is the IP address? will be in the form of ###.###.###.###

If it is being moved, with significant arctic cold overspreading portions of the country that have been mild, and multiple snow threats pending, would it not just be simple human decency, and serious weather sense, to give some notice. This is like a phone company whose lines go do down whenever there is an emergency. No one would stand for that and I am still in a fog of disbelief as to why we cannot settle on a relaible site.

Hmmm...well, then technically you shouldn't be able to access WW. There is magic in your fingertips. Congrats.

Just for info, S2K is on a semi-dedicated server which should be able to handle literally a thousand users without any performance degredation. The phpBB software we use has a long proven record with sites 10 times as large as we are now so I for one have absolutely no concern about us being able to handle the load. As the IT Manager for a large Internet based healthcare software provider I do have experience with web based applications.
I do hope the WWBB situation gets resolved quickly but until it does everyone is welcome here at S2K.

I hate to be disagreeable, but I must. Even a top of the line dedicated server will have trouble with more than 500 online users, the only sites I know of that push 600+ users use two servers, one for the database and one to serve pages.
And just curious- which company did you get this semi-dedicated server from?

You can disagree all you want but you happen to be wrong in this case. As I stated before I do this for a living. We regularly have more than 500 users on our web servers and we run a much more intensive application than phpBB. I don't know what your background is but I do this for a living. It's not uncommon at all to have sites hosting 1000-1500 users per server today. To answer your other question, our server is provided as a public service by one of our members. He's in the web hosting business and we are very greatful that he's limited the munber of sites on this server to no more than 8.
