Wild Winter Weather Whips the West
The snow will continue to fly around the West today and tonight. The cold air across the Northwest has cause snow to fall in places not accustomed to much wintery weather. It has snowed three straight days in Seattle, Washington, and it will snow again today.
Specifically, snow will continue throughout the mountains of the West Coast Friday and Friday night. Snow in the Cascades of Washington, Oregon and California will accumulate at least another 3-6 inches with up to a foot of new snow in the California Cascades. Snow in the Siskiyou and Klamath mountains of California and in Sierra Nevada mountains will accumulate another 3-6 inches of new snow Friday with up to another foot of snow in the northern Sierra Nevada. Snow will accumulate 1-3 inches in the mountains of Southern California Friday. Snow will fall again to the west of the Cascades, away from the coast, in Washington and Oregon affecting travel through Seattle and Portland Friday. Snow will accumulate 1-3 inches making roads snowcovered and slippery in spots.
It will also snow across the Intermountain West Friday and Friday night. Snow across northeastern Oregon, southwestern Washington, Idaho, western Montana, western Wyoming, Utah, northern and western Nevada, western Colorado, northeastern New Mexico and northern Arizona will accumulate at least 1-3 inches with 3-6 inches across northern Idaho, southwestern Montana, northern and eastern Utah and western Colorado. A foot of snow is possible in the mountains of Utah and Colorado above 6,000 feet.
Elsewhere, snow across North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota Friday will accumulate 1-3 inches. Snow across northeastern Upstate New York, northern Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire as well as western and northern Maine Friday will accumulate 1-3 inches. Roads will be snowcovered and slippery in spots. A mix of freezing rain and sleet across northeastern Pennsylvania, southeastern upstate New York into western Connecticut and southwestern Massachusetts Friday morning. Roads will be icy in spots making travel treacherous. Temperatures in these areas will rise above freezing before noon.
