Winter Weather Summary
POSTED: December 31, 2003 7:02 a.m.

Snow Continues in the West

The snow will continue to pile up in the mountains of the West Coast today from Washington to northern California. A storm system will bring rain to the coast but you will not have to travel too far up into the hills of western Washington and Oregon for the rain to change to snow. Snow levels this morning have been near sea level in Washington and northern Oregon, with snow falling in both Seattle and Portland. However, the snow levels should rise above 1,000 feet later this afternoon.

The heaviest snow will be in the Washington, Oregon and California Cascades as well as in the Klamath, Siskiyou and Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, where at least 6-12 inches of snow will fall during the next 24 hours and as much as two feet of snow in the California Cascades and northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Snow showers across western Washington and western Oregon, outside the Cascades, Wednesday will accumulate 1-3 inches, making roads snow covered and slippery in spots. Snow will also fall across northern and eastern Washington, eastern and southern Oregon, northern Nevada, northern and central Utah, western Wyoming, Idaho and western Montana Wednesday into Wednesday night, where snow will accumulate at least 1-3 inches with up to 6 inches above 6,000 feet in northwestern Wyoming, northern Idaho and southwestern Montana.
