#1 Postby hurricanedude » Wed Dec 17, 2003 2:00 pm

Local Mets are saying the the alberta clipper un the upper-midwest will dive southeast to the SE NC coast thursday night, they say new computer models suggest a period of accumalating snow(several Inches) for SE VA and NE NC...can anyone verify this?

Different forecast for me...snow showers, but little or no accum. according to local TV, however I think some sections of KY/OH/IN may get snow accum. up to an inch.

Yes, the ETA and GFS does hint at the POSSIBILITIES as the clipper system develops offshore and some potential backlash for SE VA .. the 500b disturbance is quite potent on the vorticity scale and another disturbance BEHIND that also wants to develop after that...but way too far for anything but the fish to enjoy ...

More or less that part of the Delmarva has gotten the big shaft so far this year as it does lots of winters. This i know because i am from the area where wxid lives.

Anyways looking at todays runs it would seem the heavier snow looks to wanna set up north of the tidewater into the Delmarva from Between the MD/DE Line south to the Bay Bridge/Tunnel. Which is where i do think the heavier snow will fall from watching this on sats and radars................And no im not saying the Tidewater wont get any just saying the heavier snow should be to the north of that area............

Yup ! What King says i right. Go 30 miles from where i am in any direction and you could be anywhere between rain and 10 inches. For ex: in the Bliz of 1996, i got 6 inches and 20 miles in the next town to the NE, they got 15-18 inches, due to rain line wash outs. Its not a big deal except that it happens this way 90% of the time. The rain-snow line ALWAYS hovers in a line from NW to SE and starts around Norfolk in the morning and ALWAYS comes right to Salisbury by mid-day. This happens with most Noreasters....one word .... ARRRRRGGGGG!!!

This is caused by many different parameters, but the Bay and Ocean temps factor large.

What does the snow situation look for the peninsula (primarily Yorkcounty) of SE virginia, about 25 miles NNW of Norfolk? I'm crossing my fingers on this one, this will be the 1st snow of the year.

I would like to add you guys in se VA may end up with just mostly Rain ending as a brief period of snow. This is especially true once your south & east of lets say i264/i64 at the VA Beach expressway exit...

That isn't me, usually there is a big difference in snow between the southside and the peninsula. Last year we had a storm that brought about 5in while the southside had less than 2.

Good news, Yorkcounty is now under a winter weather advisory. The only problem is that I live in the more southern and eastern part of YC and there are no advisories for Hampton or Newport News.
