Increased Activity

#1 Postby george_r_1961 » Sat Dec 13, 2003 2:16 pm

Well hurricane guru Dr. Gray has said we are entering a period of increased hurricane activity. So folks along the coast need to have a plan of action formed BEFORE the next one comes.

If we are in a period of more activity. Then the drought of the US Coast not getting hit by a major, will probably end sooner than we think.

Just missed major status with Claudette and Isabel

Not only the US coastline but here in the caribbean islands too we have to be ready for a major cane hitting as Dr Gray says about the caribbean landfall probabilities.

The Caribbean is not exactly overdue with Major Hurricanes landfalls as so far most areas of the Caribbean have experienced Major Hurricane landfalls.

1995 - Roxanne

Yucutan Peninsula (Mexico)

1996 - Lili

Bahamas (eyewall)

1998 - Georges

Antigua

Puerto Rico

Dominican Republic

Yes that is true i meant Major Hurricane landfalls was not overdue but very strong Major hurricanes are indeed overdue.

as out of all the above Majors only the following were of category 4 status.

Luis (1995)

Floyd (1999)

Lenny (1999)

Iris (2001)

Michelle (2001

the last Category 5 to make landfall in the Caribbean area was Gilbert in 1988.

By the way Hugo was Category 3 status when he hit Puerto Rico

i know what you mean, just pointing out some stats.
and Hugo was a cat 4 it was weakening and east of PR before landfall at the northeast tip of the island it weaken to a cat 3. (tough i may be wrong)
in wich case the last cat 4 would have been 1867 (san narciso) in oct 29
