Lame Excuses For Not Wearing A Seatbelt

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Fri Dec 12, 2003 12:16 pm

Eversince I've seen those "Click It Or Ticket" ads on TV, I had come up with a list of lame excuses for not wearing a seatbelt. My mom helped out on a third of this list.

1. I’m only driving a few blocks.
2. The seatbelt buckle is broken.
3. The belt’s too tight!
4. The strap is torn up.
5. Don’t be silly, a belt’s just there for beginners, I’m an expert.
6. I don’t like reaching back there!
7. I don’t want to wrinkle my clothes!
8. I’m just going to the store just around the corner.
9. It clashes with my coloring!
10. I don’t want to mess up my hair. (What does that have to do with seat belts?)
11. It interferes with being romantic.
12. I got airbags in my car, why do I need seatbelts?
13. My wife’s pregnant and I have to drive her to the hospital immediately!
14. It chokes me!!
15. People will make fun of me if they see me wearing a belt.
16. What if I gotta reach something in my glove compartment while driving? (Also not a good idea)
17. I’ve worn and worn and worn my seatbelt, but still don’t run into any accidents, so what’s the worse that could happen?
18. (For parents) My son/daughter keeps playing with my belt!!
19. What’s a seatbelt?
20. Officer, why does the seat need to wear a belt?
21. I’m late for work!
22. But Officer, I’m only moving into another parking space.
23. You just took the fun out of driving.
24. I don’t want to look like a sissy.
25. I have an exempt vehicle.
26. My seatbelt smells awful.
27. Some people told me that a seatbelt is like a snake.

If anyone likes to add to this list , feel free to do so.

Obviously, someone is not wearing their seat belt over the correct body parts. :)

Here's one:
I refuse to where a seat belt for the simple fact that I'm told I have to.

Sure, I can understand wanting to have a sense of defiance and rebellion, but not when risks one's life.

Best cure to get someone to wear their seatbelt - let them get a ticket. My hubby hated wearing his seatbelt - well he had to come and pick me up from work on Saturday and not nailed for not wearing one - now he doesn't start the truck without putting his own. It cost him $120 of his hot rod parts money. :-)

I was in a serious accident in 1995..was rear ended by a drunk driver and pushed into the car in front of me. All 3 vehicles were total losses..with my vehicle being in the middle sustaining the worst damage. The State Trooper at the scene as well as the paramedics said I would have been seriously injured..or worse..had I not been wearing my seatbelt. As it was..i sustained a whiplash injury and a concussion. Sure as hell better than broken bones.

I know I made a joke, but I never start my engine unless my kids and I are buckled in!
