Does anyone want to do anything..

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Wed Dec 10, 2003 3:51 pm

that may be considered crazy by some..

I at my young age was a track runner in High school. My goal in several years, {if I can figure out what the requirements are} is to brave the early spring temps. and run the MARATHON IN BOSTON :)

Call me nuts.. But I'd love to do that someday and I hope I get too. Though I'd probably have to get a sponsors' exemption or something cause I don't think I could do the time trial requirement which is like 3 1/2 hours lol

Good luck with it!

Thank you Stephanie.. I'd love to run the marathon. Everyone I know thinks it's crazy cause nobody thinks I'd be able to do it.

Good luck, John!

My best friend says that the crazy thing she'd love to do just once in her life is deliver a flawless line on a TV show or in a movie or somewhere where she'd be seen by a lot of people. I've tried to win her a walk-on role to ER or Scrubs (one at a network contest and the other on EBay), but I was unsuccessful.

Yours isn't crazy at all, John. THIS is crazy -- I used to want to be the voice of NBC. You know, the one who says "This is the NBC television network" and "Saturday, on a very special episode of 'The Facts Of Life'..." and "This is 'Today' with Katie Couric and Matt Lauer." But I've only heard a female announcer a few times. Guess they prefer guys. Plus, when I get sick, I can be sick for days and never get my decent voice back. But I was always told that I should go into broadcasting because of my voice.

Steph. Not sure if you're talking about me but.
John it's not a crazy thing, well maybe it is, but I've run four marathons (Granda's Marathon In Duluth,MN) and am just starting to train again for another one this summer. It mostly takes just getting out and running to get your body used to the impact and abuse, but I've survived and enjoy them.

People thought I was crazy when I took up sky diving 25 years ago! It's the next best thing to sex and sometimes it's even close ;-)

Doesn't that motivate you even more? You can show all of them! Good luck.

It actually does motivate me more.. I gotta figure out what the requirements are though lol.

The main reason I wanna run the 1 in Boston is because it's the main 1 and even if you finish in last place you usually get a lot of name recognition {so I've heard}

Maybe starting out in a leeser known marathon would be beneficial also. I little less pressure on yourself. But by all means, go for what you want. Good luck to you my friend

Hey Blizzard.. I actually did a marathon earlier this year. A "relay for life" as it was called. You get 18 hours to run/walk whatever.. {I mostly jogged} You of course don't have to run the whole time and can take breaks..

I ended up putting 16 miles on my feet.. I took several breaks that's why I only got 16 miles.. lol

If I go back and do that relay next year.. I plan on running the amount of laps that equal a 26.2 mile marathon. I did the math.. and 26 miles would be 104. so I guess 26.2 would be 105-106 laps :)

Thats a great start. The furthest I ever did was a half marathon. I felt good about the accomplishment of that one. Once again, good luck, we are all behind you. Some of us literally, while you were crossing the half way mark, I'd still be at the starting line...lol

John, Doesn't look like you or I will be qualifying for The Boston Marathon any time soon. I just looked up the qualifying time for last year, it was
3hours 10 minutes for men age 18-34 which I believe you are in. thats about an hour less than my best time. Have to stick with the others for now. But I would love to run it sometime too.

Maybe I can get like a sponsors exemption or something. 3 hours and 10 minutes for me would also be next to impossible lol

That's a neat goal!! Not for me though!

I want to stand on broadway.....just to be there would rock my world!! Maybe I'll be a street performer while I'm there, make my cab fare back to the hotel I stay in....

I don't have big dreams, the two things I absolutely HAVE to do one day are graduate college and become a mother!! If I could do just that I would be truely happy!

I used to watch at least a portion of the Boston Marathon on the local news stations in the Boston area through the '80's and '90's. It is certainly takes a lot to run or even walk the 26.2 mile race.

There are participants still crossing the finish line, mainly jogging, if not walking between 8:00 pm and Midnight.

The first place male comes in around 2:10 pm Eastern (2 hours, 10 minutes) and the first place female crosses the finish line around 2:25 pm Eastern (2 hours, 25 minutes).

The wheelchairs start at 11:45:00 am Eastern and the runners begin at 12:00:00 pm Eastern.
