question?

#1 Postby 2001kx » Thu Dec 11, 2003 12:31 am

i was wondering what track a storm has to take to put me in the bulls-eye
here in central,pa...i get some good snows here but im never in the
bulls-eye.it always seems to be about 75-100 miles east or 50-75 miles south..is there any real reason for this or is it just luck of the draw..

I'd like to know the reason as well- same thing happens here in the Quad Cities..... however; I just refer to it as my "bubble", no weather ever happens in the bubble!!

Its what they Call Location Location Location. If you wanna use my analogy. Like this instead of Money Money Money. Its all about the Location.

it really just is the luck of the draw...if the pattern supports a surface low taking a favorable track to blast your area w/ hvy snow then great...if not...one just has to keep waiting.

There are such things called a Snow Belt. It does Seam like in SE PA it is more like York to Harrisburg Reading and Allentown and Wilks-Bare and also Scranton. It sucks for me being so close to the I-95 line where its feast or famine. Per Rain/Snow Line.

I know that I miss plenty of severe weather being down in a valley right on the Mississippi River...does snow tend to follow that as well? May be a weird question to anwser saying as I worded it oddly, but if I drive up the hill and a few miles north into the open plains, the weather can explode, and I can only imagine the snow patterns do the same, but maybe I am wrong, still only learning here!

Hey some of us can attest to that for sure. Try living on the eastern side of the state and have to worry about the rain/snow line because of the ocean. now does that sound scary none the less that easterly fetch catches on and forget it its a mixed bag if not all rain. There shows ya how lucky you are compaired to here. The Major cities here on the East side of the Apps usually get jipped because of mixing and or complete change over to all rain. Trust me i have had way to many shares of heartaches with the rain/snow line to know all to well not to hold high hopes. I hope so hard to get 90% of them smashed. So dont worry your in a 75% better location then over here on the East Sid eof the State.
