First taste of arctic air

#1 Postby aep » Wed Dec 10, 2003 3:19 pm

Arctic high pressure continues to move southward into the plains bringing down the first real taste of cold temps this winter. Here in Winnipeg we woke up to a temperature of -24C/-12F today. Furnace is working overtime to keep the house temp up...likely under clear skies the sun still manages to help the furnace out a bit. Tonight will be even colder with the temp expected to bottom out at -30C/-22F. Warmer temps are forecast to arrive by the weekend, hopefully with some snow.

That'd be brutally cold for me. I start shivering when we have mornings around 50 lol

It truly is something to experience. When you first go outside from a warm building the air is so crisp that your eyes water up instantly. This may sound gross for some but when you first go outside and breath in through your nose you can feel the boogers in your nose crystalize...thats a weird feeling.

LOL, aep! The coldest temp I ever experienced was -14 degrees. I don't recall the "crystalizing" that you referred to, but then again I did not have a cold at the time.

Eh, it wouldn't have frozen instantly. The fresh urine would be at body temp so it would probably thaw a thin layer of ice or briefly warm a metal fence (not that I'd want to touch it), plus it doesn't have the same freezing point as water. Of course, as it cooled, it would begin to freeze.
