Anyone got the flu?

#1 Postby azsnowman » Fri Dec 05, 2003 9:46 pm

Just curious, anyone here got the flu or someone in your household? Michelle's just getting over it, not the REAL bad strain but bad enough! I'm fighting it off TOOTH and NAIL....I feel like I'm getting it, having waves of chills, a MONSTEROUS headache and achey all over, I'm drinking OJ by the gallons, popping ecinachia (sp) like crazy, so far, so good (x's his fingers) I just talked to my watch commander at the PD......he's had it over 2 weeks and is still in bed, NUMEROUS people here at the ER, it's NASTY!

I got a cold last week that felt like it was going to go into the flu. Aches, chills, no fever though. Felt lousy for 2 days and then it was over. I took a flu shot so I think that's why it wasn't bad.

My daughter Laura caught a bad strain of the stomach flu going around 2 weeks ago. Won't go into details but I can't remember my kids being that sick in years! She missed 3 days of school too. Third day she was on the mend. This week I made her get a flu shot. She didn't like it one bit but all I had to say was do you want to be sick again?

So now all four of us have had flu shots. That's a relielf.

Sure hope you're not coming down with it Dennis. Yikes, hope your friend gets over it soon. 2 weeks is a long time! I did have it once for 3 weeks. About 10 years ago. I have never skipped a flu shot since then.

My brother always swears by eating lots of fresh fruit. Varieties you just don't normally eat too - strawberries, melon, whatever is not in season but pricey right now, but that's what he does when he gets the flu. Loads up on fruit. I think we all have our own defense. Mine? Hot tea with lemon and honey. And homemade chicken soup. The soup's steam is supposed to do wonders for flu/cold. That's all I have for now to help you out Dennis. Take care of yourself!

I didn't have the flu this year, sinceI got my flu shot early, in Oct when I saw my doctor for my 6month checkup for the thyroid levels he needs to keep an eye on. But I did have it several years ago , it was a bone deep ache if you even touched me with a finger tip, felt like I wanted to curl up and die, had no appetite and coughed till I couldn't cough any more, the worst part of it was the cough, it hung on for another month after I felt like I was feeling better.

I always get sick on breaks off of school. My mom is getting a tad sick, step dad and dad are fine to my knowledge. A school in Topeka had 149 students gone yesterday, an Olathe school, population of 1400, had 49% of it's students gone. A good friend of mine you all may know as "Izzy" is getting it, too.

No one has died yet in KS though. :)
