FORT WORTH, Texas - A 35-year-old local artist escaped serious injury Thursday morning when he lost control of his pickup, crashed through a metal gate and plunged down a 20-foot embankment into the West Fork of the Trinity River.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, Brynn Helber had managed to escape from his submerged GMC Sonoma pickup but was still in the frigid water, only his head resting on the river's bank, fire Lt. Steve Creed said.
Creed and firefighters Kevin Kouns and Nick Riggs jumped into the water and pulled Helber out.
