Green radar returns are now impacting Woodbridge, Va with Moderate snow. The temperature has fallen to 29 degrees, dewpoint is still 20 degrees. Winds light. Some flakes appear to be nearly an inch in diameter. I think the snow is beginning to form slush on the roads and to turn white. I did not expect this. There is nearly a half-inch of snow on all surfaces except the roads and sidewalks.

Local weather advisories are progging us with 4 inches of snow tonight. They had predicted light snow and sleet earlier tonight. We did get the snow; we did NOT get the sleet. Now they have changed the forecast for Friday, from rain changing to snow late Friday afternoon or night, to a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain on Friday, changing to all snow Friday night and continuing Saturday.

My gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did not really expect this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just HOW much snow is this storm gonna dump here anyway?

Hey Colin, I have a feeling you're gonna get a record blizzard up there!!! I hope you're prepared!!!!

Still snowing here, 29 degrees, noticed winds 12 mph from the North. Everything is white: The grass, the ROADS, the SIDEWALKS, the car tops, the fence tops, the bushes, everything has got snow accumulating on it!! Over a half-inch of snow has accumulated in the past hour and a half. At times the snow is moderate, then it gets lighter, then moderate again. The radar shows unrelenting precipitation that will continue for hours.

I am dazed. I did not really expect this, not here. We had a very mild autumn here. I am dazed because I thought the snow would not accumulate on the grass tonight. I NEVER expected it to actually accumulate on the ROADS and SIDEWALKS!!!!! This is ONLY early December in Virginia!!! We have had a very MILD autumn!!!

I am beginning to think that we are in for a very, very bad winter.

We are certainly going to get 4 inches tonight; I am even beginning to wonder if it will be more than that tonight..........

It's 951pm here and we now have just over an inch of snow on the ground here. The snow is coming down moderate, verging on heavy. The flakes are an inch across. It looks like a Winter Wonderland. The temperature has just fallen to 28 degrees here. Dewpoint is 20 degrees.

Stay tuned, I'll keep ya all updated on this storm.

Gotta watch that ice!!!! You have snowcover and freezing rain at 30-degree temps. I hope you don't accumulate too much ice!! That can bring down powerlines and trees onto homes. Plus, its heck driving on ice and walking can be a very raw deal.

We have moderate snow and 28 degrees, with a dewpoint of 20 degrees.......winds light, occasionally gusting to 12 out of the N.......snow depths here are working on 2 inches. I've watched a few drivers fishtail around as they try to negotiate the turn at the bottom of the hill right in front of my house. That last one nearly slammed into my neighbor's pickup truck....WHOA!!!!!!

What an early-season storm!!!! If the snow keeps up like this, we could easily see 4 inches tonight, BY midnight!!!

The worst winter precipitation there is is that Freezing Rain. That is by far the WORST stuff to have to contend with!!! Forget driving on it.......don't try walking on it either.........I had a friend take a pratfall on ice resulting from freezing rain......he bruised his lower back something terrible and it was two weeks before he could even try to walk.........it's just not worth it to even try to walk or drive in ice.

I'll keep ya all updated on this developing storm as it continues to dump snow on Woodbridge VA.......

That song by the Beastie Boys, "No Sleep Til Brooklyn!!" comes to mind.......

I'll probably be up until about 2am at the latest..........but you can count on me to be here tomorrow and the next day!

It's 28 degrees, dewpoint 20 degrees.......winds N at 7mph, G to 14.......2 inches of snow are on the ground......we have some sleet mixing in with the snow now, this will slow down additional accumulations. I hope we don't get that freezing rain! Man that is really bad stuff!!

I'll be updating this thread for another 2 to 3 hours, so stay tuned.......then tomorrow, the N VA storm saga continues.........

We've got a lot of sleet here, you can go outside and hear it tinkling as it hits everything. I made the mistake of walking outside and looking up and I got an eyeful of sleet------not such a good idea. There is some snow mixed in, but its mixing with sleet big-time. Looks like we're gonna be packing a boatload of sleet pellets onto our 2 inches of snow here. Hope we don't have to take a ton of freezing rain with it, man, that's gonna make a real mess in this town. As if it wasn't bad enough last season...........

But we got some snow, and we may well get more tomorrow night into Saturday.........It's nice to see snow cover again here in the Mid Atlantic.

Still 28 degrees and a dewpoint of 20 degrees, light winds.

I'll be updating this.......stay tuned.

Snow is mixing back in with the sleet, temp is 29 degrees, dewpoint is 21 degrees. Snow/sleet depth is 2.1 inches. If we see more snow mix back in with this sleet, we may see more accumulations.

Stay tuned, I'll be back in a few.......

1220am here..........................

29 degrees, dewpoint back down to 20 degrees. N winds 7 mph G to 16.

We are seeing snow and sleet. Snowpack 2.2 inches. The accumulation rate is very slow due to infiltration of sleet into the snowfall, however the snow/mixed boundary appears to be oscillating back and forth, it goes NW, then back SE. I wish the durn boundary would just stay the heck SOUTH of me, thank you! I DON'T want freezing rain!!! We have been observing sleet, then some snow mixes in, then we see all sleet, now we have a solid sleet/snow mix. If that dratted snow/mix demarcation line would just behave itself and just go away (That is, Go away far to my south and east that would be peachy!)

All snow will be fine, but the darn sleet just keeps mixing in with the snow. Oh well. I'm content with what we have..........just stay south of here, freezing rain!

I'll be back with an update...............

1AM report..............................

29 degrees, DP is 22 degrees. Winds are N at 5mph, G to 14mph.

I have observed a lull in the snow/sleet precip.

Snowpack is still 2.2 inches.

I'll be up for a little while longer....................

K folks, this will be my last post for tonight. Its 117am here.

Temp is 29 degrees, dewpoint is 22 degrees.

Lull in snow/sleet continues. Snowpack is 2.2 inches. Everything is white.

You can expect me back here at about 10, 11am. I will continue to update you on this developing storm in a few hours.

If you live north and east................Watch Out, this storm has some potential to dump major amounts of snow this weekend. I hope Woodbridge gets in on it Friday night through Saturday. If not, I am more than happy with my 2 inches! :)

Take good care, be careful out there, and Good Night.

Greetings from Arlington VA. Right now, it is an inch or so of snow on car tops and a bit of slush in the street (the rain line having moved up over us). However, the TV shows serious slush in Falls Church, and NWS reports up to 8" in the VA Piedmont/ Skyline Drive/ Shenandoah Valley area. The rain line is now roughly straddling Rt. 50.

It looks like the Potomac "tongue" (where some of us live) melted round 1, but this may not occur with round 2.

Report from near IAD

#37 Postby NoVaSnow » Fri Dec 05, 2003 7:28 am

In Centreville, VA, I measured 5 inches on my trash can, only 3 inches in driveway due to initial melting.

I'm in DC now, where there is a half inch on car tops and grass. Was raining the whole drive in (with much lighter traffic than usual).

Hoping for lots more tonight.

Jeb, that was fun last night. We have had all rain since around 10 p.m. There was more snow up your way than in Fredericksburg. I just drove into Alexandria see my post. It is all rain/sleet up here. Waiting for the eventual changeover to all snow. Keep in touch today as we go into Saturday.

12 Noon, December 5th here now......

This is SnowBlitzJEB reporting from Woodbridge, Va where we received 2.2 inches of snow and sleet last night. At 150 am this morning the sleet started again, then at 240am it was sleet and rain.

It's 12 Noon now and we have 32 degrees, dewpoint 24, NNE winds 6 to 14mph with a steady light rain falling, no ice thank God.

We still have an inch and a half of snow on the ground, to my utter surprise! There is even some snow still on the roads!!!

Stay tuned folks, I will be updating this throughout the day-------It's going to be very interesting later this afternoon and tonight into tomorrow.

Feel free to chime in, everyone!!! Those are some interesting reports that were submitted after I signed off last night! :)
