Jeb's Northern Virginia Thread (Woodbridge, VA)
Okay everyone, this is what's goin' down here today:
Overnight Low......Forecast: 27 degrees. Actual: 25 degrees.
Today's High temps.......Forecast: 40 degrees. Actual: 35 degrees. We have two cloud decks overhead: cirrostratus and a lower altostratus deck that is blotting out the sun. Thus we are now chilling out at 33 degrees. Dewpoints have been steady in the mid/upper single numbers for the past 36 hours, with NNW wind at 8 mph, G to 17. It's COLD out here folks!!!
It's turning out colder than expected, both yesterday and today.
Something's up with the weather, but I'm not sure what.
Just for the record, last year, we got 5 inches of snow on Dec 5th.
Hmmm......................it's Dec 3rd today........I wonder, could it happen again?
Hey everyone, you're encouraged to chime on in on this thread!!! Hey, where are you King of Weather?!! I'm ready for Winter now!!!!! lol

Nice to meet ya Lowpressure!!

Look's like your namesake is gonna bring a mixed bag of wintry precip our way, beginning late tomorrow night on into late Saturday. Some of our local mets have remarked that this system could slow down and prolong the event into Sunday or Monday.
My current thinking is that we will see a mixed bag here, possibly beginning as light snow, then changing over to all snow later in the event and probably giving you and I anywhere from 1 to possibly 5 inches near the end. If this thing slows down...........................? Anything could happen.
You're 30 miles south of me, that would place you near Fredericksburg. How close was I?
I hope you get a lot of snow with this!!!!!!

hey there, im in Richmond,VA, and we are even getting hit hard with ice sleet freezing rain and snow, so be prepared, locals have prolly not yet nailed how big this is yet, this is a very hard storm to track, it has been doing things that are not normal, and yes, the temperatures are much colder than predicted for the past 2 days, they predicted 40's and its been in mid 30's both days and right now 32, so keep an eye on it, it could be a significant storm along with significant precip along the mid-atlantic states include the coast

Light Snow/Flurries now reaching the ground in Woodbridge
As of 145 pm, light snow and flurries have begun to reach the ground in Woodbridge. The temperature hit 36 for a high but evaporative cooling has dropped it to 34 degrees. Dewpoint is 10 degrees. Radar shows more snow coming up from Central Virginia. I suspect ground temps are relatively warm so I don't expect any accumulation today or tonight. We have three cloud decks in place overrunning the cold dome: Cirrostratus, altostratus and a low stratus layer. The overcast has that "snow weather" look to it, and it's darkening.
Precip is moving from the west, check out this radar out of Wakefield, VA:

Will keep you advised of any developments locally. Stay tuned.

We had steady light snow here through 340pm-----no accumulation. Light winds, temp is down to 32 degrees, dewpoint is now 15 degrees, and heavy overcast. Nothing falling at the moment-------but we are progged for 4 inches of snow/sleet tonight. It's gonna get slick.
Then tomorrow we get rain mixing in, then changing back to all snow Friday night, then an outright snow Saturday-----We could end up with 6 to nearly a foot by Sunday morning, some of our local mets think.
We got 5 inches of snow last December 5th.
Will history repeat itself? Will we get even MORE snow than last year?!!!
Stay tuned. Hey Colin, you enjoying this yet? Get ready for 20 inches there!!!
YEAH BABY!!!!! BRING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the infamous Radar........................
http://weather.noaa.gov/radar/loop/DS.p ... kakq.shtml
This is Jeb, reporting from Woodbridge, VA.
The clouds are getting lower, they are reflecting a lot of the streetlights here. The temperature is 32 degrees, the dewpoint is 16 degrees. Winds are light. I have seen a few snow flurries. Snow is NOT melting on the car top. We lost the solar insolation at 5pm, thus I am certain that we will see some accumulating snow tonight. Our forecasters are now predicting snow for tonight, with possibly some sleet and freezing rain mixing in, we are progged for 2 to 4 inches.
No accumulation on the grass or on roads as of yet, however I DID notice a few snowflakes on top of my car five minutes ago, and they are certainly not melting!!!!
The precipitation shield on that radar loop, is just beginning to overspread Woodbridge at the present time.
I'll keep y' all posted!!!!!

Light snow is falling here. Some of the snowflakes are over a quarter of an inch in diameter. Temps are holding at 32 degrees, DP is 16. Winds are light. The tops of our cars are white. No accumulation yet on streets and sidewalks. I think the snow is accumulating on the grass, I'll know for sure in another half hour.
Stay tuned for updates, this is SnowBlitzJEB, here in snowy Woodbridge, VA!!

Lowpressure wrote:Almost one inch of snow now covering all surfaces. Snow is now heavy with some sleet mixed in. A light breeze now mixing down. 30.6 degrees. Starting to accumulate rather quickly.
Hey Lowpressure, you've got us all beat with those inch totals!
Here's the Latest......................
The temperature is now down to 30 degrees. The dewpoint is now 20 degrees. The cloud deck is very low overhead.
Winds are light. This is now becoming a steady snow, with some of the flakes well over half an inch in diameter. I measured three-eighths of an inch of snow on my wooden fence, on my car top, on the bushes and shrubbery, and on the grassy surfaces.
Take a gander at this radar:
http://weather.noaa.gov/radar/loop/DS.p ... kakq.shtml
Man, Fredericksburg must be getting hammered!!! Radar shows your location getting into the light greens! When that yellow return hits you, you're gonna know it!!! That's 35 dBz, that yellow, and you'll be getting clocked with heavy snow if it hits you!!
We are still just getting into the blues, but there's a band of light green translating east towards us!! Come ON green!!!
I can't believe this is happening already!!! What kind of a winter is this gonna be anyway!!!!!!
Stay tuned, I'll keep ya updated into at least 1am.........
