FORT WORTH, Texas - For an industrial plant that's supposed to be shut down, the old north side tannery site stays awfully busy, Jesus Barba says.
People come and go at all hours at the empty buildings of what was once Texas Tanning, and the Fire Department has repeatedly fought multiple-alarm fires there, he said.
Since it closed two years ago, the facility has become an eyesore, a derelict complex of empty brick buildings that shelter vagrants, prostitutes, gang members and drug users, he said.
"It's very dangerous for me and my kids," Barba said.
