What is your favorite Christmas or Holiday Song(s)?

#1 Postby blizzard » Sun Nov 30, 2003 10:38 am

Mine is "Christmas Carol" by Skip Ewing. The song is about a little orphan girl who doesn't know who her daddy is and her Momma has gone away. And in the end she finds a home for Christmas, a real tear jerker.

There are so many to choose from. I've always loved the David Bowie/Bing Crosby duet of "The Little Drummer Boy". There's a newer version with Clay Aiken singing it with Bing Crosby which is absolutely fabulous!!!

My favorites are any singer's version of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" "O Holy Night," and Amy Grant's "Emanuel" in terms of the real spirit of the holiday.

Secularly, my favorite is "The Christmas Song" as sung by the Carpenters, followed by "Merry Christmas, Darling" also sung by the Carpenters and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by the Carpenters or by Amy Grant.

So, my favorite Christmas albums are "Christmas Portrait" by the Carpenters (though, not on CD, as far as I can tell), Amy Grant's "Christmas Collection," and Barbra Streisand's "A Christmas Album" which is older than I am, but my mom used to stack that one along with Perry Como, the Carpenters, Bing Crosby, and a handful of others on the turntable every year as we decorated the tree and got ready for the holiday.

Now I think I need to go out and find another cassette copy of the Carpenters so I can listen to it as I drive to KY this year.

It was performed on the "Nick at Nite" Holiday special Friday night. They will be repeating it over the month of December. The special also had Natalie Cole, Kenny Rogers and Michael McDonald. It was cute but I tuned into it JUST TO SEE Clay! I heard that it has been on the radio and it should be. You can't tell I'm a big fan can you???

Clay is an awesome singer! Not winning AI hasn't hurt him one bit. It's obvious from his album sales that America has voted with their wallets. :)

Between Clay and Kelly, I'd have a hard time going against the Texan, but Clay has such range and variety. There's no contest. :)

I loved Kelly in the first AI. There's an American Idol "The Great Holiday Classics" that's out. It's a double CD - the second one has two from Kelly. She sings a cappella "Oh Holy Night" which I think is wonderful, and a new song "My Grownup Christmas List" which I really like as well. Highlights to me of the other CD is Clay's "First Noel" (of course!) and "O Come All Ye Faithfull" by the ensemble.

In general, my favorite ones to sing are The Christmas Song, O Holy Night and Carol Of The Bells....

My favorite song sung is Mariah Carey's Miss You Most At Christmas Time, though IMO all the songs on her Christmas CD (released pre-meltdown, lol) are beautiful!!

There's a new kid in town by George Strait and Silent Night. I like jingle bells too - cause I know all the words and love singing it.

My favorite song is "Little Drummer Boy" by Patty Loveless and Rebecca Lynn Howard. Second is "The Christmas Shoes" by 3 of Hearts. I also love to hear "Carol of the Bells" and "Christmas Times A Comin'" by Rhonda Vincent.

"Let There Be Peace On Earth" is one that I enjoy at Christmas. I also enjoy Amy Grant's "Emmanuel." On the lighter side, I like the spunk of "We Need A Little Christmas."

Dennis... I mentioned it too. It is done by 3 of Hearts. The girls never made it big in the country field, but this song has done well for them.
