Ditto!!!!

I was very, very impressed with President Bush for this move. I know personally morale is suffering in Iraq, we have a nephew serving with the 101st Airborne Division, home on a short leave. He said with the holidays coming up, soldiers are down. This surprise move by Bush was the best thing that could have happened. Bush went up a notch in my eyes.

*sigh*

I cried when I saw this on the news last night. Of course, I read it here first, so I already knew it happened. But when I saw the footage, as they were calling for someone to read the President's Thanksgiving Day proclamation and asking for the most senior person in authority, and then Bush suddenly walked out and the troops saw him, jumped from their seats with surprise, stood with respect, and let out a loud, roaring cheer.

I felt so proud and so touched.

And so what if Clinton goes. What authority does she have? What kind of morale boost could she possibly give to the troops? And finally, is it as awesome or as risky for her to go? NO.... Bush didn't NEED to do anything to counter Hillary's visit any more so that he'd need to counter ANYONE else's visit.

He had his own reasons for going (several thousand reasons who are there on the holiday instead of being with their families) and I'm quite proud of him.

Hillary visited the troops in Afghanistan, while Bush visted out troops in Iraq.

Paolo... everything is politics:):):).. Bush had been criticized for not attending the Funerals of any of our returning KIA soliders. The impression his Dem rivals said was Bush didn't care about our troops, etc, etc... While I am not a big Bush supporter overall.. the Thanksgiving move was a bold move and stole alot of the Dems thunder on this isssue. I have to give credit where credit is due, I liked what Bush did and I tip my hat to the President for it:):)

Typical response!

I highly doubt that Bush went through all that trouble and to put his life in danger all for the sake of re-election.

Perhaps he did it because he cares...he is human...and has feelings especially for those serving in Iraq.

Senator Clinton :grrr: and another Democratic colleague were already on a scheduled "fact-finding" (?) junket, just as several other Senators and Congressmen have done since May (including my Congresswoman, [Republican 8th District, MO] Jo Ann Emerson a couple of weeks ago); the President entered Iraq under tight secrecy to be with our troops as their Commander in Chief, and VERY few people had any knowledge of his plans..not even his own family.

I can feel the terrorists rage boiling over, after finding out that President Bush was well within attack range, and they didn't "get" him....more power TO him for caring about our men and women in harm's way, and being there himself!

Let's see any European head-of-state go and address HIS troops on the front lines (except Tony Blair, who has already been there)....ain't happening.

I totally agree. He knows the responsibility he bears for sending in the troops and he wants them to know he totally cares for them and takes their sacrifice as a weighty thing.

Ditto Bill's observation. It was an "in your face" to opponents there, here, and other places too. It also trumps Hilary's scheduled visit. Most of all it is a morale booster for both troops and civilians back home.

He represented ALL Americans when he went over there. IMO, he was saying "I am not scared of you cowards, BRING IT ON!!"

Besides, Senator Clinton and her colleague were received courteously, but it's VERY clear that our troops do NOT consider the Dems their "friends" at all.

They are aware that the statements coming from the DNC and its candidates are unsupportive (if not openly hostile) to them, and they remember how Bill Clinton gutted the Armed Services and intellingence sources in which they are serving. And they will remember on election day next November, too.

NO! Hilary had dinner with 50 troops in Afganistan. The President had dinner with 600 tropps right in the middle of Iraq. I love the guy! :D
