This video from Saipan was recorded by a person who is from Puerto Rico and lives in that island. Hear the sound of the winds.

Re: WPAC: SINLAKU - Typhoon

There's a new monstrous outer eyewall and it seems it's trying to shake off the banding feature - if it succeeds, I'll give it the A-word

Re: WPAC: SINLAKU - Typhoon
Some stats that I think are correct:
9 Extreme Wind Warnings ties with Irma for the most for a single tropical cyclone.
The JMA's 920 mbar estimate when it hit Saipan would tie it as the 5th lowest pressure for a landfalling US TC when including overseas territories.
This is the second strongest TC to hit Tinian or Saipan on record... probably.

Re: WPAC: SINLAKU - Typhoon
According to CSU, Sinlaku has racked up 33.9 ACE units. Could be 34 given the adjustments.

Re: WPAC: SINLAKU - Typhoon
Finnally, Sinlaku is doing two things, weakening and starting to move faster. This will allow the recovery efforts in Guam, Rota, Tianan and Saipan go ahead.

The Guam NWS talks about rumors.

Regional Weather and Rumors
10:30 AM ChST, Friday, April 17, 2026
Recovery efforts related to damage and destruction from Typhoon Sinlaku continue across Chuuk State and islands/atolls of the central FSM. Typhoon Sinlaku and its surrounding wind field envelops much of the western North Pacific, with fair weather across Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia. Showers and thunderstorms are found farther east in the RMI associated with a few surface troughs.
Regarding a couple of regional weather related rumors
Rumor #1: Typhoon Sinlaku will curve and affect the Marshall Islands.
This is a rumor. Sinlaku will continue northeastward into the north Pacific, where it will continue to weaken. Once it has cleared the Mariana Islands, it will not affect any islands within the NWS Guam Area of Responsibility. This poses no threat to the Marshall Islands.
Rumor #2: There’s another typhoon forming behind Sinlaku.
This is also a rumor. At this time, we are not tracking any tropical cyclones in the region, nor are we tracking any suspect areas for development at least through the next week. Weather conditions across the Marianas will be fair and favorable for typhoon response, recovery and clean up efforts. Once something does try to develop anywhere in the region, we will let you know. Keep up to date with all the latest forecasts and discussions across the region at weather.gov/gum/publicforecasts
