Honestly we made it through at least here in good shape. I personally don't want the worst case outcome. As it is, my sisters in northwest Louisiana a little south of Shreveport are without power and have several trees down around them. For me will have a quick hibernation for today and will see how things go tomorrow with melting.

Re: Texas Winter 2025-2026
Finally went out to measure, looks just to be sleet here.
I got 3 inches of sleet. Measured on a flat tarp we put on top of the grass to give the dogs a place to go if they didn't want to use the yard. They didn't care and walked all around the sleet.
Pretty impressive! A few miles north of me likely got 4-5. A few miles south with a dry slot, probably 1-2.
I had very little from last year's epic failure. So this I call a win. It was on the upper end of FWD forecast for sleet/snow totals.
One bit of bad news (peripheral to weather kind-of) I imagine many will be getting this year: Nationwide said they are changing roof-replacement policies to just partial/limited replacement cost. Man they really want to screw you. They increased the deductible already, I guess that wasn't enough for them. Glad we used them for a cheaper deductible-only full replacement right before the last increase.

Agreed. I'm definitely thrilled things busting precip-wise, although I'm not thrilled about our Minnesota-like temps the next couple of days...

Snowfall amounts along I-44 busted as well, mainly due to poor ratios. Prelimimary reports show the totals were only 7-8" in OKC and Tulsa.
But yes, areas in TX along the Red River into Southern OK seemed to do ok. That's also where the QPF bullseye appears to be.

DFW recorded 1.5" (snow/sleet) yesterday, doesn't count what happened after midnight. That marks a 6 year streak of 1" or greater since 2021! That hasn't happened since the 1920s. Couple of stretches came close in 70s and 80s.

Like overnight the snow is weakening as it goes east. Hopefully will stay strong enough for flurries.

You’re pretty much better off without insurance. I mean if your house is paid off. All that money for them every month and I’ve made one claim in 14 years. I had to front 5k then they did the roof. That has doubled. If my roof goes again it’ll be 13k. That’s just not possible for most folks.

My younger kids are convinced this happens every year in North Texas, because it's all they know lol

jasons2k wrote:Well gang, I busted this one. I'm having a crow buffet here today. I thought I would hit freezing here yesterday about 6PM before the overnight precip. moved-in.
Well, at 3AM it was thundering and raining cats and dogs, and still hovering at 33 degrees.I had .62" overnight but only a thin layer of ice stuck around. We dodged a bullet here.
Now it's 27, cold, gray, and windy.
This morning's Chronicle (yes, we get a real newspaper) said ice threat is worsening. Expect 0.2" across Houston and up to 1/2" of freezing rain in Conroe. Huh? Meanwhile, roads are dry and the temperature is 32-33 across the city. Good thing schools closed tomorrow.

Yep, I was referring to WF not Oklahoma.

That sucks.
It just started working again, answered prayer!
Don’t know if this has anything to do with your situation, but i had 3 different HVAC people tell me when temps are very low, if there’s freezing rain/sleet/snow, if cold air coming from vents, or if unit outside is freezing to turn your system to Emergency Heat. My thermostat has an option next to heat to switch to emergency heat. Hope it stays on for you.

Second week of Feb looks like January of last year. AO nosedive and SPV look has been hinting at it since early January, along with the weeklies. Not saying we see snow in the gulf (longer wavelengths), but you roll the dice in a similar pattern with shorter wavelengths Feb version.

Agreed, looks much better for colder than normal but this lack of precip for such a long period of time is extremely concerning particularly for the western US. This is one of the worst winter droughts I can recall. Doesn’t look to improve for the first two weeks of Feb either.

Just took a walk outside. Thin layer of ice on top of the sleet accumulation. Side streets are pretty icy. Thin layer of ice on some powerlines.
Above all though, it’s cold. That wind sucks.

Yes I've heard anything below 30F for a duration of a time you should turn off your heat pump and only use emergency heat, which is your auxiliary coils only. Heat pumps don't perform well when it's this cold for this long. I've had my auxiliary xillary heat on since we went below freezing the other day.
Just my advice and don't hold me accountable if something happens, please and thank you.
