FW discussion includes tomorrow.

After this second round exits the forecast area Sunday morning,
some scattered snow showers will likely linger into the afternoon
per CAMs such as the HRRR, with potential additional light
snowfall. In addition, favorable northwest surface winds,
saturated and weakly unstable low level thermodynamic profiles,
and still-warm lake water could allow for lake effect snow near
and downwind of the larger North Texas lakes.

If I ever move, I will be looking for the south side of a lake. Lol.

My house is a couple hundred feet away from Lake Ray Hubbard, on the SW side. Sometimes it plays out but the SE side of the lake gets more fun usually. Rare events nonetheless. We've been in this house 4 years and only had 2 events.

What up G? Hope all is well. On Ryan Hall’s feed his guy called in and said it was a steam devil. I didn’t know about those tbh.

I live really close to Lake Ray Hubbard on the northern end, and this puts us on the south side of Lake Lavon. We’ve had LES in the past so maybe we’ll see it again.

Never heard of that before either.

Doing well Steve. Made a pot of gumbo with chicken, shrimp from Higgins seafood in Lafitte and Manda sausage. Hope you’re doing good as well.

Essentially had a clear slot all day--still sitting at approximately 3-4 inches which is still awesome, but easily could've been closer to 6 if we were just a bit north. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue into the "main event" tonight.

Stillwater area been getting hit pretty good.

Holding steady at 25° in Far Northern Bexar County. Waiting on the precip. Honestly surprised it’s not colder.

Badass. I made some vegetable soup yesterday and been munching on that. It’s still 50’s in NWFL but we’ll see 20ish Monday night and cold as %*?[ tomorrow after the front passes. Fwiw a steam devil is caused by sudden cold air over non frozen water where mist is drawn up in a vortex. AI says it’s a rare phenomenon. So props to the person who got that video and taught probably most of us something new today.

LES snow is so different. It's very calm and you have huge flakes. We seem to have been getting them more frequently the past few years. We need to just create a chain of lakes right up to the Red River. They don't need to be wide.

Might be a bad read of the situation, but it looks like models are underestimating the energy associated with the wave moving into Far West Texas. El Paso radar looks more robust than any of the various simulated model runs from this afternoon.

00z HRRR is running. This is probably the last meaningful cycle of the hi-res models, as we will be moving to real-time obs the rest of the way.

Anyway, hat tip to our Aggie friends doing a special balloon sounding helping HGX. BTW, mid 50s in the warm nose is impressive.

Modifying a special 18z sounding from Texas A&M University for colder temperatures
indicated later indicates a classic freezing rain sounding with temperatures around +12C in the inversion aloft, and a small
pocket of subfreezing air near the surface.

I'm not sure how old you are, but I took a meteorology class at Texas in the early 90's where Kimmel would teach on some days.

BSPE 1994. I sat in without taking Kimmel's class. But there hasn't been a met program since about 1970. Just some met classes. As I said, Kimmel and an older man with a thick German accent.
