You saw flurries in Katy?

I've heard a bit of thunder here and there. Interesting for sure.

So what's changed in the Woodlands forecast? Weather app basically gave up on wintry precip.

Convection can lift and cool the warm nose briefly/locally so a few flakes mix in with the rain even above freezing. Heavy rain falling into a dry warm nose can produce sleet with above freezing surface temps, heavy rain falling through a near saturated warm nose can transport enough warmth down that temps briefly go above freezing.

So, ended with about an inch. Enough to whiten most of the grass and the streets

Big band of sleet w/thunder moving NE toward SE Dallas county. Located around I35 in Hillsboro now. I think the bulk will miss me to the east in Midlothian.

There is a nice long band setting up from Azle to Haslet, but that's about 5 miles north of me of course. Hopefully it expands a bit. That's been the annoying part so far...very streaky precip, not a big shield yet.

Denton will cash in on this one.

Very heavy echoes over Denton. I have a mini-streak/line coming through again, so at least I am getting some of the smaller lines. Can't believe it didn't get above 19 IMBY....

I'd say maybe 4 inches. Hoping we can get double digits at least by tomorrow

Good stuff Brent! Better than 85 degrees!

Can't tell on radar, but very light sleet is falling and the wind is blowing it around, not really pleasant. Can't imagine what it will be like when the heavier stuff gets in. It feels colder now in the upper teens and that brisk wind.

Sleet is not pleasant to play in when it's falling from the sky. It literally feels like someone's throwing sand and tiny pebbles in your face.

Just took the boys out for around 2 sled adventure and had fun.

TomballEd wrote:I went to what TAMU calls texas university (sic) and I give better than I take on an SEC Facebook thread but the University of Texas dropped its met program over 50 years ago. I did audit some classes taught by Aggie grad Troy Kimmel and a professor whose name I do not recall but who had a thick German accent.

Anyway, hat tip to our Aggie friends doing a special balloon sounding helping HGX. BTW, mid 50s in the warm nose is impressive.

Modifying a special 18z sounding from Texas A&M University for colder temperatures
indicated later indicates a classic freezing rain sounding with temperatures around +12C in the inversion aloft, and a small
pocket of subfreezing air near the surface.

I'm not sure how old you are, but I took a meteorology class at Texas in the early 90's where Kimmel would teach on some days.

Light freezing drizzle and 26° in Round Rock at the moment. Took the dogs out for a brief walk. They’re not fans of this weather. Lol.

Arlington and east/SE Tarrant are getting jacked so far. I can still see the street in front of my house.
